I wrote a thing! "Functional Semantics in Imperative Clothing" It explains how code that's 100% pure functions can result in I/O, the practical benefits of doing I/O that way, and how some new syntax for that style can make it look totally imperative. rtfeldman.com/imperative-clo…

Today I (re)learned about the class_names helper in Rails. It's very useful for adding CSS classes depending on multiple conditions!

Wanted to give a shout out to railscasts.com/ also btw - this was a real gem early on, while I was learning to be a better programmer. I probably watched almost all of these while living in Argentina.

Strange Loop was a labor of love from 2009-2023 - thanks to everyone that spoke, attended, or watched our videos online. While our conference has ended, the friendships remain!

"How coupled is this code?" I can't answer until I see what kind of changes you want to make. Code is coupled with respect to some changes & not to others. If you never change your database, then being potentially coupled to your database vendor isn't a problem.

caffeinate is a built in cli program that will do the same (prevent sleep) but think it will still kick in the screensaver.

Docked Rails makes it a breeze to try out Rails without installing anything. As long as you have Docker, and can copy'n'paste a few commands, you can get to Hello World in no time. Works on Mac, Linux, Windows. Showcase from a freshly made Linux Droplet. github.com/rails/docked
