Trump: When Democrats are back in power they will try to end the filibuster and make Washington DC and Puerto Rico states.
MSM: Trump is lying, Democrats haven't called for that.
Obama: End the filibuster and make Washington DC and Puerto Rico states.
Looking for a good, freshly roasted decaf coffee (whole bean) that I can order online. Prefer ordering by the pound. Any recommendations?
I'd love to hear the explanation why a mayor of a major American city has an approval rating under 7%.
To my Portuguese-speaking friends: Anybody know of August Wilson plays performed in Brazil or translated into Portuguese? I have come across Fences (Um Limite Entre Nos). Looking for some new angles for my study group.
We are at play #3, Fences, in the ten-play August Wilson American Century Cycle for the study group at OLLI-AU. Just received the exciting news about the Broadway revival of Joe Turner's Come and Gone next year and already making plans to attend. More to come. Stay tuned.
#JoeBullard has been a football announcer since I was at #FAMU 40 years ago. I think he will survive this faux pas. Hang in there, Joe! Go #Rattlers!
A Pact - Ezra Pound
I make truce with you, Walt Whitman—
I have detested you long enough.
I come to you as a grown child
Who has had a pig-headed father;
I am old enough now to make friends.

Saudades of glimpses of ModPo on the platform formerly known as Twitter. Must have missed the memo. #modpolive
In an alternate universe, Tim your-rights-come-from-Government-and-not-from-God Kaine would have been elected on the Clinton ticket in 2016, served two terms, and now would be our president. Imagine that and then consider how lucky we are. #timkaine #naturalrights #Constitution
Emily Dickinson - How far is it to Heaven?
965
How far is it to Heaven?
As far as Death this way—
Of River or of Ridge beyond
Was no discovery.
How far is it to Hell?
As far as Death this way—
How far left hand the Sepulchre
Defies Topography.
Emily Dickinson - A Spider Sewed At Night
A Spider sewed at Night
Without a Light
Upon an Arc of White.
If Ruff it was of Dame
Or Shroud of Gnome
Himself himself inform.
Of Immortality
His Strategy
Was physiognomy.

A Precious Mouldering Pleasure
Poem 569 #modpo
A precious mouldering pleasure ’tis
To meet an Antique Book
In just the Dress his Century wore
A privilege I think
His venerable Hand to take
And warming in our own
A passage back or two to make
To Times when he was young
When Sappho was a living Girl
And Beatrice wore
The Gown that Dante deified
Facts Centuries before
He traverses familiar
As One should come to Town
And tell you all your Dreams were true
He lived where Dreams were born
In Canto #4 of Inferno, we learn there is space in our religious tradition for virtuous, well-meaning pagans. But they reside in limbo inside Hell's first ring. In contrapasso, to give it a Dantean spin, these souls did not recognize God, so God does not recognize them.
Virginians have a tough choice ahead. A colleague just posted a photo of Lt Gov Earle-Sears all decked out with an assault rifle from 5 years ago. Really bad timing. But here is what the other side posted last week:
Canto #3 of Inferno introduces us to the concept of contrapasso. In Hell, sinners experience punishment similar to but opposite the sins they committed in life. Standing outside the gates of Hell are sinners who remained neutral in life, refusing to take sides. #100daysofDante
