Bernard Brodie on the importance of studying military history: “...the only empirical data we have about how people conduct war and behave under stress is our experience with the past.” One should not neglect the professional value of history.

China-Pakistan Military-Strategic Collusion: Capabilities, Functions, and Implications for India A Special Report by @orfonline Includes a chapter by me on "China-Pakistan Collusion in Cyber, Space, and ISR" at orfonline.org/public/uploads… I highlight that China appears to be applying its ancient stratagem, “To kill your enemy with a borrowed sword”, by exploiting Pakistan to keep India busy along its western front. This approach allows the PLA to impose strategic costs on India without direct military stand-offs. This collusion spans all battlespace domains, from peacetime to the grey zone and direct conflict. I show how Chinese civil commercial satellite constellations (EO only, excluding SAR and all types of government and military) imaged Pahalgam 121 times (Image 1) from 01 Jan to 21 Apr 2025 before the Pakistani sponsored terrorist attack on 22 April 2025. Then during India's Operation SINDOOR, China's commercial EO constellations continued to image Western India (image 2, some places at every 10 minutes during day time) Chinese commercial satellite constellations have been imaging Sir Creek area (Image 3) most frequently as can be seen from 01 to 15 Jun 2026 too. Chinese cyber and digital assistance (Image 4) has enhanced significantly even the OFC line as part of CPEC has been laid from China to Rawalpindi (and not to Islamabad). This OFC line may have been used to shift images.

Male ego is one of the biggest threats women bikers face on Indian roads. Riding dangerously close. Trying to scare them. Lewd comments. Anger when asked to keep their distance. After what happened to Sia, women riders tell NDTV why her ordeal is far from unusual. Watch. #WhenItReallyMatters @RajputAditi @ndtvindia youtube.com/live/BXu6b3JiPHA…

#Military superiority does not guarantee political victory. #Ukraine and #Iran show how drones, missiles, terrain and strategic adaptation can help weaker adversaries offset material disadvantages and build bargaining leverage: @SameerP_IND & @rawatra10 or-f.org/40288

Asymmetric warfare is a contest of strategy, adaptation, and political objectives.♟️ #Ukraine and #Iran illustrate three recurring principles: • Impose costs that influence an adversary's decision-making. • Use terrain and technology to shape operations. • Integrate military, economic, political, and information effects throughout a campaign. Adaptation, flexibility, innovation, and scalability remain essential elements of asymmetric warfare. 📖Read "Lessons of Asymmetry from Ukraine and Iran in Conflict," a #SWJEssay 👤By Rahul Rawat and Sameer Patil: smallwarsjournal.com/2026/09…

The flood tragedy in Nepal and Tibet ought to focus global attention on the super-dam China is building in another section of the Himalayas, despite its own scientists in June warning of serious geological hazards at the construction site. Shrouded in secrecy, the unparalleled dam is rising within the Himalayan seismic belt, one of Earth’s most earthquake-prone regions. The dam's gigantic reservoir could itself induce earthquakes by intensifying geological stresses. My column: prosyn.org/XIpwCSV

Seven years after the abrogation of Article 370, the trajectories of India's Jammu and Kashmir and Pakistan-held Jammu and Kashmir have diverged in striking ways. In Indian Jammu & Kashmir, the post-2019 transition has increasingly been defined by democratic restoration and economic integration. An elected government is in office. Once-routine hartals, stone-pelting and separatist shutdowns have disappeared, while counterterrorism operations have become more targeted and civilian life more stable. Record tourist arrivals, major infrastructure projects (including the Chenab Rail Bridge and new highway corridors) and rising investment have injected fresh momentum into the economy. The constitutional changes have extended full political rights to previously marginalized communities, even as demands for the restoration of full statehood and greater powers for the territory's elected government remain unresolved. Across the Line of Control, the picture is markedly different. Pakistan-held Kashmir has been convulsed by recurring mass protests, which have been met with police shootings, mobile and internet shutdowns, and sweeping state repression, including the arbitrary detention of protesters under anti-terror laws. The protests have been fueled by grassroots resentment over Pakistan profiting from the region's natural resources while leaving local people to bear mounting economic hardship. Political discontent has deepened over governance, accountability and electoral representation. The contrast is difficult to ignore.
