Shiv Sena > handed to Shinde faction NCP> handed to Ajit Pawar faction Now TMC >name & symbol frozen overnight. Same pattern, same “majority of MLAs” test, same result that benefits one side. Coincidence? Or institutional capture? (b) Model Code of Conduct is a joke for the powerful. Open communal dog-whistles, “infiltrators” rhetoric, personal attacks from the top leadership ,barely a notice by the ECI But a single sharp line from the Opposition side and the EC suddenly finds its voice, issues bans and censures. Selective blindness is not neutrality. (c) Opaque SIR leading to citizen harassment. Special Intensive Revision rolled out like a surprise raid. Millions of genuine voters (especially the poor, elderly, migrants, minorities) forced to scramble for decades-old documents. BLOs pushed to breaking point. Mass deletions first, explanations later. Transparency? Zero. Accountability? Missing. When an institution starts deciding who gets to keep a party’s name, who gets punished for MCC breaches, and whose name gets struck off the rolls without due process , it stops being an umpire and becomes a player. That’s why the criticism isn’t “kattaksh”. It’s a demand for the Election Commission to act like the constitutional body it was meant to be not an extension of any political machine. Free and fair elections are not a favour. They are a right as per the Constitution of India .
