It's a shame Bad Manners turned into a comedy ska band. Tracks like Night Bus To Dalston and Inner London Violence are proper tunes.

S-Express - Original Soundtrack Apr 89 UK Peak: 5.
3 belters for singles - 'Theme From..' & the equally brilliant 'Superfly Guy' & 'Hey Music Lover'. Creative dance album that's aged reasonably well. 7/10 #smashhitsalbumreviews

Music question for today.
What's a record or track that is a "zeitgeist" song i.e. it makes no/little sense other than in the year it was released?

The Rezillos: Top Of The Pops (1978). This is the sound of the school disco for a certain generation and it's absolutely fantastic!
Now nobody at school in '78 was listening to disco. No one. Punk was slamming into New Wave, everything was loud and a bit silly, you could dance like nobody was watching and you could wear what you like ("As long as you're warm who cares!" as Toyah used to say).
The Rezillos came out of Edinburgh School of Art in '76 and released their first album "Can't Stand the Rezillos" two years later. This was the most radio friendly single from it (Destination Venus, their other well known single, wasn't on this album). And then... they split up. They came back together in the Noughties for a bit and were just as loud and frenetic as always.
Lyrical excellence from Mr Skinner... abso bloody lutely ❤️ this lp when it came out... I was 33 🫣

Oh my pretty
Oh my sweet girl
It’s a marvelous place
They put weights down
In your coat tails to burn you out
Lest you fly
Lest you take off
And show whomever what’s what.
It’s one outrageous lie after another
