In a liberal democracy, the President is primarily responsible for federal matters, while governors and local government authorities have their own constitutional responsibilities and autonomy at the sub-national level. We have been saying this repeatedly: Nigerians must hold their senators, members of the House of Representatives, governors, state officials, local government chairmen, and other public office holders accountable for the responsibilities entrusted to them. The Tinubu administration has implemented reforms that have increased the resources available to the sub-national governments. The responsibility now extends to the states and local governments to demonstrate how these resources are being used to improve the lives of their people. Let us stop putting every problem at the doorstep of the President. Hold your governors and local authorities accountable. Demand transparency, responsible spending, and tangible development at every level of government.
