ALERT: Sri Lanka to impose one-hour power cuts for three days from today (between 4.30pm and 8.30pm) The CEB says a 300MW shortfall followed the weekend shutdown of a generator at the coal-fired power station. Hydropower is being run at maximum capacity.

Sir @anuradisanayake!

Sri Lanka’s colonial flag --featuring a yellow lion on a red background --was updated in 1951 to include orange and green stripes representing Tamil and Muslim minorities. Four Bo leaves were added in 1972. Displaying the old flag today is highly offensive to these communities.
A week after unveiling the Racco, BYD’s smallest car, at Rs. 11.45 million — the same price as a brand-new Toyota Raize — JKCG has slashed the price by nearly 25% to Rs. 8.75 million. Still, the Racco makes little sense when many brand-new ICE cars cost far less.
It will be interesting to see who is foolish enough to pay Rs 11.45m for BYD’s smallest EV, the Racco, when an infinitely better brand-new Toyota Wigo costs Rs 2.5m less at Rs 8.95m, and the far superior Raize is just Rs 11.95m. monetabrief.com/news/byd-rac…

#SriLanka's National System Operator has asked rooftop solar owners to switch off their systems to help restore the grid, after a nation-wide cascading failure during a very sunny Saturday. monetabrief.com/news/sri-lan…
Power restored across much of the country withing six hours of the major breakdown. Full restoration was only after sunset.
The National System Operator (CEB) hopes to restore the grid fully by 6.30pm today. Many rooftop solar owners do not know how to disconnect from the grid, delaying stabilisation. We must wait for sunset and remove solar from the system!
Power restored in several places. Stage by stage restoration, says Energy minister Anura Karunathilaka.
System instability tripped the national grid — as it did on an exceptionally bright Sunday in February 2025. Unless rooftop solar is switched off, the CEB cannot stabilise the grid or restore supplies.
