I wrote a one-page AI use policy for small accounting firms, plus a 10-question check on client details in public chatbots. Free. No call. Reply POLICY and I'll send the PDF.

I keep landing on the second one. Understanding the grader is the worker learning the scoreboard. Looks like a step change until you freeze the target first.

The agent kept widening the change set and stalling for the next ask. Handbook already named minimize before polish. When your coding agent expands scope, does it already know the rung that says stop?

Someone deleted the FAIL so the log looked clean. Ranex named it removed-observation. If a bad observation vanishes, does your gate still know it was there?

Claude building the eval it hillclimbs on is still the worker grading itself. Flagging reward-hack traces doesn't make that chat an independent judge.

If the agent can rewrite its own trace, green is a handshake. Refusal helps, but the judge still needs Read not Edit on that scoreboard. I've watched the same move on tests.

The model remembered the library. The lockfile disagreed. Leitir refused the checksum. Did your agent read the pinned bytes, or its memory?

That preview verification is still the worker scoring its own PR. Green on a browser run the same agent drove is a handshake until a judge that can't edit looks.

When you design both sides, green is a handshake. Verification only counts if the judge can't edit the scoreboard. I've watched same-chat grading fail that test.

Those properties have to be frozen before the agent writes. If the same session invents the asserts after the change, that's the thrower scoring itself.

Catching reward hacks before the run burns money is right. I've watched agents optimize the check they can see. Late catch is still the worker grading itself.

Publishing a token just to punch out of the grader is the same move as editing the test. The agent optimized the check it could see. I've watched that path more than once.

Soft verifier, soft pass. I've watched agents optimize the check they can see and leave the work untouched. Hard holdout first, or the green is a handshake.

This. I've watched agents reuse a library from memory instead of reading the install. Cheaper on tokens. Wrong pin.

Grader and candidate in the same process is a handshake, not a verdict. I've watched agents take the path that makes the reference look worse instead of their work look better.
