I have to admit, I always wondered what this part of Psalm 23 meant. I thought “He anoints my head with oil” was figurative language for God keeping the Psalmist healthy. I never knew this parallel.
Anoint my head with oil
“Sheep can get their head caught in briers and die trying to get untangled. There are horrid little flies that like to torment sheep by laying eggs in their nostrils which turn into worms and drive the sheep to beat their head against a rock, sometimes to death. Their ears and eyes are also susceptible to tormenting insects. So the shepherd anoints their whole head with oil. Then there is peace. That oil forms a barrier of protection against the evil that tries to destroy the sheep. Do you have times of mental torment? Do the worrisome thoughts invade your mind over and over? Do you beat your head against a wall trying to stop them? Have you ever asked God to anoint your head with oil? He has an endless supply! His oil protects and makes it possible for you to fix your heart, mind, and eyes on Him today and always! There is peace in the valley! May our good good Father anoint your head with oil today so that your cup overflows with blessings! God is good and He is faithful!!”

Welcome back to what is the first bonus point + DEFCON round up of the season!
👉🏻Ajer and Sangare kept their DEFCON. Kayode has lost a bonus point.
👉🏻Van Hecke gained a huge 3 DEFCON in the update, finishing just 1 away from the threshold on 9.
Lewis-Potter gained a valuable successful dribble (+1bps), taking him above Kayode after their previous tie in the bps.
Sangare also gained a successful dribble (+1bps) in the update, taking him even further ahead for 3 bonus.
👉🏻Iliman Ndiaye held onto his DEFCON and bonus point
Ndiaye wouldn’t be anywhere near bonus point contention if this was last season! He was dispossessed a huge 7 times (-7 bps last year), but this season players are not penalised.
Incidentally, Ndiaye was just 1 recovery away (+1bps) from tying with Barry for 2 bonus, who also benefited from this year’s rules with 4 dispossessions of his own unpenalised.
👉🏻Tarkowski and Canvot both failed to hit DEFCON in the update, and we also had no bonus point changes.
👉🏻 Despite a three way tie for 2 bonus, no bonus point changes occurred in the Leeds game!
Anton Stach breezed to maximum bonus with his goal, even without any passing bonus.
Along with his goal (+18 bps) + winning goal bonus (+3bps), he was fouled 4 times (+4 bps) and completed two successful tackles (+4 bps).
Muharemovic was his single foul and one successful pass (+3bps) away from joining the cluster of players on 2 bonus. Sounds a lot but is still very fine margins!
Whereas Jake Bijol was simply one failed pass away (-2bps) from dropping out of the bonus completely. More fine margins!
If the game ended goalless, Murillo would have finished with 3 bonus (31bps) and Neco Williams would have had 2 bonus (29bps) - in theory.
👉🏻The award for most impressive bonus performance comes from Hull goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis!
Two Hull centre backs managed both a goal + clean sheet (+24 bps) and still finished below the goalkeeper in the bps scoring!
Tzolakis accumulated a whopping 22 recoveries (+7bps)!
He also made:
• 3 saves inside the box (+9 bps)
• 2 saves outside the box (+4bps)
• Claimed an additional +1bps thanks to this season’s addition to reward a “big chance saved”
👉🏻 It looks like hardly anything at all changed in the United game! Only one or two things changed which is rare! But I’d say at this point we can assume no bonus changes occurred.
👉🏻 No bonus point or DEFCON changes occurred in the Sunderland game either. - Despite Dan Ballard gaining an additional DC, he still fell short of DEFCON by just one.
👉🏻On Friday evening Bobby Thomas hit DEFCON in the update, whilst no bonus point changes occurred.
Calafiori was outscored by White in the bonus despite both achieving an assist + CS.
The critical decider was the fact that White hit the maximum passing threshold of 90%+ accuracy (+6bps). Whereas Calafiori was just 6 passes away from being eligible for passing bonus (30 pass attempts needed).
If last season’s bps scoring was in play, these would be the differences:
Ajayi (+1 bonus)
Barry (-1 bonus)
Ndiaye (-1 bonus)
Pickford (+ 2 bonus)
M. Nunez (+ 1 bonus)
Justin (-1 bonus)
Trafford (-2 bonus)
Kayode (+1 bonus)
Janelt (+2 bonus)
Not real changes to report but definitely a lot of interesting scores, especially when you factor the new adjustments!
Thought I’d include those comparisons to show how even minor tweaks to the bps system can have a big impact!
Hefty post so well done for reading the whole way!
Hopefully this was an interesting read and I’ll be back again with another roundup after today’s games 😀

no way this dude is 17
Aston Villa can confirm that the club’s appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport regarding the registration of Brian Madjo has been upheld.
17-year-old Madjo signed for the club from Metz in January. Born in Enfield, London and a UK citizen, he left England at a young age and was raised in Luxembourg but has been unable to play due to FIFA‘s rules on the international transfer of minors.
The striker has scored four goals in pre-season so far, including two in the opening friendly fixture against Walsall.
The court’s decision today means that Brian will be registered as an Aston Villa player and eligible to play in official competition matches for the forthcoming season.

I’ve also made a theoretical summary of this for fantasy picks and ordered each by fixture difficulty
#WCFantasy
Here’s a summary of what each team now need in order to qualify at the World Cup:
Group A:
• Mexico top the group regardless of MD3 results
• South Korea need only a draw to finish in the top 2.
• Czech Republic and South Africa both need to win to realistically have any chance of qualification
Group B:
• Canada are essentially guaranteed qualification and simply need to draw their game with Switzerland to finish top
• Switzerland are also effectively through but need to beat Canada to finish first
• Both Bosnia and Qatar will be fighting for the win in their game. A draw is no good to either team
Group C:
• There’s a great chance that Brazil, Morocco and Scotland have all qualified for the knockouts already
• Brazil and Morocco will be looking to win their games by the most goals in an attempt to win the group
• Scotland are likely fine already but a draw would secure qualification
• Haiti are already knocked out
Group D:
• USA are already the confirmed winners of Group D, regardless of their result in MD3 (they have the H2H on both Australia and Paraguay)
• Australia simply need to not lose to guarantee second place
• Paraguay are likely fine regardless of the result but a positive result against Australia is the aim
• Turkey are knocked out already after losing to both teams above them
Group E:
• Germany will be group winners regardless of the result in MD3
• Ivory Coast simply need a draw to secure 2nd spot in the group
• Ecuador need to beat Germany as 2 points doesn’t look like being enough to be a top 3rd place side
• Curacao also need to win their last game to have a chance at qualification
Group F:
• Much like Group C, the top 3 of Netherlands, Japan and Sweden are all likely through regardless
• Netherlands and Japan will both want to win to try and hit top spot
• Sweden will finish top 2 with a win but a draw will also be fine
• Tunisia are knocked out
Group G:
• A point for Egypt will see them win the group unless Belgium win by 3 or more goals
• Both Belgium and Iran will likely be fine with a draw but they’ll be looking to win to make sure
• New Zealand realistically need to beat Belgium to stand a chance
Group H:
• A draw for Spain will basically see them through as group winners
• A draw for both Uruguay and Cape Verde will likely see both go through, with Uruguay finishing 2nd
• A Uruguay win will see them likely win the group unless Cape Verde wins by a greater margin
• Saudi Arabia need to beat Cape Verde to stand a chance of qualifying
Group I:
• Both France and Norway are through regardless
• France only need a draw to win the group, Norway need a win
• Senegal and Iraq will both need to win to stand a chance of qualifying. A draw is no good for either team
Group J:
• Argentina have won the group regardless
• Austria simply need to avoid defeat to finish 2nd
• Algeria likely are through but a positive result is ideal. A win is even better, as it would confirm 2nd place
• Jordan are already knocked out
Group K:
• Colombia are already through but need to avoid defeat to win the group
• Portugal are also effectively through but will be looking for a positive result
• Both DR Congo and Uzbekistan need to win.
• A win for DR Congo will basically guarantee qualification but it may still not be enough for Uzbekistan due to their poor goal difference
Group L:
• England, Ghana and Croatia are all effectively through
• England will look to beat Panama to secure the top spot.
• Ghana need to better England’s result or win by 2 more goals than England
• A draw is fine for Croatia but they’ll be looking to win to finish in the top 2
• Panama are knocked out already
That’s just about everything! If you have read the whole way then I salute you but hopefully this helps!
