PS I’ve met Putin many times and listened in on calls with him as well. I also speak Russian. Yes he is soft spoken, deliberate, and measured. So what? He’s still a killer. He still launched a barbaric invasion of Ukraine, that has produced tragic loss of life not seen on this scale in Europe since WWII.

Like many Washingtonians, I use East Potomac Park & Hains Point how it was intended: As @NatlParkService urban park for all people to enjoy nature. It should stay that way. The original cherry trees were gifted to our city by Japan, and they are a wonderful landmark of our city.

The Trump Administration was clearly lying about the reasons for their mass felling of trees in East Potomac last weekend.
They were lying to conceal from the American people that, at a time when our country is at war and everyone is worried about the economy and high prices, the President simply doesn’t care—he’s focused on building an upscale golf course within walking distance of the White House. And on his fancy ballroom and his memorial arch to himself.
The design he’s pursuing would block off roads and paths used by large numbers of local residents for cycling and walking, no doubt to make the area another exclusive hangout for Trump’s rich and powerful friends.
And once again he’s doing all of that at great expense, on your dime.

This proposed plan is absolutely unacceptable.
Here’s what the plan actually does: 36 holes of public golf cut to 18. No more mini golf. No more park. More running / cycling road. No more playground. No more introductory course. Nobody has said a word about the Cherry blossoms.
Who is this actually for? Not the kid learning to golf. Not the family in a walk. Not the birders.
This was never about the public. It’s for the elitists who want a private showcase, and one man’s ego.

East Potomac was never supposed to be a "championship course". That was the whole point.
When it opened in 1921, golf in America was a rich man’s game, private clubs, high dues, closed doors. East Potomac was built to be the opposite: a muni course anyone could walk onto and play, designed by Walter Travis to challenge experts and welcome beginners on the same eighteen holes.
That wasn’t an accident. It was the mission.
A championship course built to chase the U.S. Open and the Ryder Cup isn’t a renovation of that mission. It’s a reversal of it. It takes a course built to open golf up to everyone and turns it into the exact kind of exclusive showcase East Potomac was created to stand against.
Congress didn’t dedicate this land “for the recreation and pleasure of the people” so it could eventually become a luxury product. The irony isn’t incidental. It’s the whole fight.
Oh hell no: a president should not be able, under any circumstances, to pardon themself. Sorry, that's shady AF and not anything that a legitimate democracy (or democratic republic, to be pedantic) would allow.

Agreed wholeheartedly. I know there's a desire to keep the District on the leading edge. But autonomous vehicles are still in their early stages. There are still questions about their safety. They will almost certainly place a lot of jobs on the chopping block.
