How can flight plasticity help migrants to better utilize meteorological conditions along their route? We found that common cranes use thermal updrafts when crossing the sea.

Terrible scenes from the main tern colony, cause as yet unknown. We'll keep you posted.
Shocking news from Israel: In recent weeks a mysterious disease wiped out entire productivity of main tern colony in Atlit that holds >90% of ntnl breeding pop of Common & Little Terns. Vid by @YosefKiat

Paper on state-switching step selection functions (HMM-SSFs) published in Movement Ecology (rdcu.be/ddHru)!
We model behaviour-dependent movement and habitat selection, with some new extensions and inferential tools. Applied to 🦓. With @len_thom and @TheoMichelot

Wow! Much needed terminology clarification, my warm congrats!
"Moult terminology: Let’s make it simpler!" is the best Ibis ECR paper for 2022. Thanks @IBIS_journal @LeicaBirding @LeicaUK and the readers who liked my paper and voted.
Happy to see this unique contrbution out. What a story! Bravo to the generations of griffon's researchers at @MovEcoLab, continued now at the superb lab of dear @OrrSpiegel.
The latest entry in @ESAEcology's #TheScientificNaturalist series documents the life of a #GriffonVulture named Rehovot - illustrating the value of longterm #WildlifeTracking

How does an individual’s spatial cognition contribute to the development and use of their home range and influence their survival within it?
We explore this Q using PHEASANTS – the bird genius
New paper out today led by the excellent @rjpheathcote

This was only possible because we could
a) test 100+ birds under controlled conditions in early life
b) introduce birds to natural environments
c) track in real time all individuals at hi-res using the ATLAS system of @ran_nathan & @Sivan_Toledo
d) locate dead birds
Highly innovative ATLAS-based study, with clear insights into a major biological interaction; warm congrats and thank you Rob, Joah and all co-authors for this great collaboration, and bravo @NatureEcoEvo for efficient peer-review!
Very excited to (finally!) see our paper out in @NatureEcoEvo showing how spatial memory predicts whether, and where, pheasants are killed by predators! nature.com/articles/s41559-0… (thread!) 1/

Interested in using ATLAS to track animals?
Check out our new paper about the Wadden sea ATLAS (WATLAS) bit.ly/3BoBJMr demonstrating the capabilities of the system and what questions we can approach with the type of data it yields.
Bravo, Sam, my warm congrats! Looking forward 🙏
Super excited to find out @tash_gillies and I have been awarded a @NERCscience #ExploringFrontiers grant to use the #ATLAS tagging system to study intra-specific seabird interactions in the Arctic with @ran_nathan @Sivan_Toledo @DrCBeardsworth
Very well done, Pratik, what an impressive PhD thesis, my warmst congrats! Proud and happy to say, as your co-supervisor, that you have clearly been THE key player in all these excellent contributions to #MovementEcology 👏👏👏 Best wishes for great success in your next moves 🙏
May as well take the opportunity to say that I defended my PhD in September. Thank you, to everyone who's helped along the way.
I also left the Netherlands in August for an alt-ac job in London, at @LSHTM, where I develop tools for epidemic outbreak policy.

An important (and well-written) paper clarifying the difference between range and occurrence estimators! Although this distinction has been around for some time, many users of Brownian Bridge estimators do not seem aware of these differences. Well done!

We want to attract a broad range of talks and posters, so don't be afraid to submit abstracts that don't fall under the 'classical' movement ecology category.
Movement is key to so many fields within animal behaviour and ecology.
