interesting design detail on the new HomePod mini: the inner mesh isn’t the same color as the outer mesh
the Blue HomePod has a Green mesh on the inside, the Green HomePod has a Blue mesh, and the Pink HomePod has an Orange mesh

I’m sure this one won’t make anyone angry. (But probably not here.)

🦾 Robotic milling is adding a new layer of precision to 3D-printed concrete.
In its latest experiments, Vertico combines 3D concrete printing with robotic milling to refine surfaces after printing. The process can smooth visible print layers, sharpen edges, and increase the accuracy of details and connections between elements.
The combination also allows different finishes to coexist within a single piece, preserving the layered texture of printed concrete in some areas while creating precisely milled, smooth surfaces in others.
By bringing additive and subtractive fabrication into the same workflow, these experiments explore new possibilities for the geometry, texture, and finishing of 3D-printed concrete.

I, along with the rest of the Deno company, am joining Cloudflare!
I'm motivated by abstractions that give leverage at scale. The Cloudflare workers programming model is a hermetic computing abstraction that truly embodies the old Sun Microsystems tagline "The Network Is the Computer". The programming abstractions that Kenton designed really force scalability. If you squint your eyes you might even conceive of it as a distributed high-level operating system.
The only major problem with this distributed operating system is that practically people only use it inside of Cloudflare. Cloudflare is an amazing service for nearly all applications - but there are many situations when you might need it to run elsewhere.
I want to solve this problem and make the Workers programming model the default way you write server-side application code.
The time is ripe for new abstractions too - what software we run and how we run it are changing quickly with AI. The number of agents is exploding and I don't think they all need a Linux VM. A much more lightweight Durable Object would suffice for many applications. I'm super keen to talk to people who want to self-host agents at scale on DOs - msg me!

Maybe a hot take, but I think the new all-electric Jaguar Type 01 looks pretty good. Their initial marketing strategy was terrible, but this production version looks good and somewhat cyberpunk like. Now the question is, will anybody buy it. Deliveries start in 2027. $130k starting price. 400-mile EPA range.
A lot at stake for Jaguar with this vehicle. It's a make or break moment for them because they've bet the future of the company on this thing.

Thanks Google, Embedding Gemma 2 is a big deal 🫶
Multimodal embeddings (text, images, video, audio) can run on-device in the browser. No server, no API key, ~20–70 ms per query on WebGPU. Everything stays on your machine (ofc).
Now go build (new) things with it 🚀
Introducing EmbeddingGemma 2, a new open multimodal model that sets the standard for on-device efficiency.
- our first open, natively multimodal embedding model
- handles text, code, image, video, and audio tasks within a lightweight, modular 740M parameter form factor
- ideal for offline, privacy-first RAG when paired with Gemma 4
- outperforms some specialist models more than twice its size
Weights available now on Hugging Face.
