The State of Trans SRHR in Uganda 2026 Conference Day 1 | Community Building Day — “Knowing Ourselves.” Before we faced the stakeholders, we faced each other. On March 4, trans and gender-diverse people from Central, Western, Eastern, and Northern Uganda gathered in a closed, safe space for the first time to map our health realities across HIV, TB, malaria, and SRHR. We mapped what happens when a trans person walks into a health facility in every region of this country. We explored the barriers disease by disease, region by region. We shared models that are already effective in our communities. And in the Storytelling Circle, some of us shared experiences we had never spoken aloud in a public space before. By the end of the day, we had reached a consensus. We agreed on our priority asks to the Ministry of Health, what we are prepared to contribute, and selected community presenters to carry our evidence into the stakeholder room the next morning. Day 1 was the foundation. “This conference was the first time in Uganda that trans and gender-diverse people from every region sat in one room, documented our health realities, and presented that evidence directly to the people who run the programmes that are supposed to serve us. That has never happened before. We have never had a national platform to say: this is what HIV access looks like for us, this is what TB looks like, this is what malaria looks like, this is what SRHR looks like. Now we do.
