If reports that India has denied IranAir permission to transport essential medicines are true, it raises serious concern. Must even humanitarian consignments yield to external pressures? What remains of strategic autonomy if the movement of life-saving medicines is constrained in this manner? Humanitarianism should never be held hostage to extraneous diktats. @DrSJaishankar @sjaishankaroffc

I have been discussing the Ken-Betwa protests in my Introduction to Critical Thinking classroom. That one of the most important faces of this important andolan remains in jail after being arrested on 28 September is unforgivable. This government crushes dissent in the most brute way possible. Particularly when the dissent is aimed at its most inhumane policies and projects which will make only a handful of men even richer than they already are.
24-year old activist Divya Ahirwar, one of the faces of the protests against the Ken-Betwa river linking project in Madhya Pradesh, is still in jail after she was arrested on September 28, 2026. Delhi or MP, the BJP clamps down on any democratic resistance. #DivyaAhirwar

I cannot stress this enough: the arrest of Dr Randall & Dalit activist Laxman Naik in #Kalahandi is as abhorrent as the arrest of @SauravDassss & @AshutoshRanka They're being allowed to speak to their lawyers/family. BJP govt in #Odisha is as cruel as the govt in #Delhi
Not a single doctor's lobby is speaking up for Dr Randall. Every pressure group in medicine is corrupt & self serving. This poor man should not be in prison. What a shame.

After his PG, Randall had many lucrative options in front of him. He took it upon himself to work in the most backward regions of India and has been with them for over a decade. We have only let down Dr. Binayak Sen, Stan Swamy, Sudha Bharadwaj among others. Not again..
Every caring Indian must read this When most doctors opt for immigration or corporate hospitals Randall chose to work with Adivasis He asked why they were impoverished He's now arrested for fighting mining Will you jail the most idealistic youth among us? nivarana.org/reality-check/h…

Iran’s flag carrier IranAir says India and Singapore have refused to issue license for the airline’s cargo flights to transfer 60-70 tons of medicine to Iran. India has not even allowed IranAir to carry out that cargo with civilian flights.

PUCL condemns the continuing arrests of Dalit-Adivasi leaders and activists opposing the Vedanta mine in Sijimali by People's Union For Civil Liberties countercurrents.org/2026/10/… The People’s Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL) has condemned the arrest of Dalit activist Laxman Naik and doctor Randall Sequeira, who have opposed Vedanta’s proposed bauxite mine in Sijimali, Odisha. Arrested on 16 October and remanded to 15 days of judicial custody, both were allegedly taken into custody without being informed of the grounds for their arrest or being allowed to consult lawyers. PUCL describes the arrests as part of a wider pattern of police repression, surveillance and fabricated cases against Adivasi and Dalit communities defending their land and forests. It demands their immediate release and an end to criminalisation.

Jai Hind The judicial custody of #AshutoshRanka and #SauravDas must be urgently reviewed and they must be released immediately. Hoisting the National Flag, even in a prohibited area, should not warrant such prolonged detention. The judiciary and the executive must rise to the occasion to ensure that the youth of this country do not lose faith in the rule of law and constitutional rights.

My dear friends, please, I hope to demand your absolute attention to this matter: In 2018, my junior from St. John’s Medical College, Bengaluru, Dr. Randall Sequeira (middle in the pic), trekked up a steep, bauxite-rich plateau in Odisha to hold a monsoon health camp in the indigenous Kutiya Kondh village of Kutrumali. In a piece he wrote then titled "Kutrumali’s Demons," Randall described sleeping under a dripping school roof in freezing fog, borrowing utensils from a local health worker to cook khichdi, and waking up at 6 AM to a line of tribal mothers. He wrote with heartbreak about treating malnourished toddlers with protruding bellies and visible ribs, listening to stories of stillbirths and chronic fevers, while noticing the shiny new solar lights installed by a mining conglomerate eyeing the aluminium ore beneath the villagers' feet. Comparing his small medical team to hobbits sheltering in the night, Randall worried about the outside forces coming for that fragile village. Randall stayed with the tribal/ adivasi community to serve them. After St. John’s and an MD in Internal Medicine from SMS Jaipur, he gave up every comfort of urban medicine to live in Kalahandi, recognizing that clinical prescriptions are meaningless when indigenous communities are stripped of their forests, water, and dignity. On the night of October 16, Odisha police picked up Dr. Randall Sequeira and Dalit activist Laxman Naik at 11 PM from his home in Bhawanipatna. A gentle physician who has spent years trekking up hills to save tribal children is now locked in Rayagada sub-jail under frivolous but draconian charges (attempt to murder, dacoity), simply for standing with Adivasis peaceful protesting the mining of their sacred hills in Sijimali and Kutrumali. thewire.in/rights/randall-se… Odisha Govt. said it will cut down forests to connect tribal villages. But it was a way to bypass green laws and fast track London based Vedanta’s, and Adani's mining plans. Local organisations estimate that around 45 villages depend on these hills and would be affected. reporters-collective.in/trc/… The state has answered with repression rather than dialogue. In the last three years, at least 43 police cases have been filed and over a hundred Adivasis and Dalits, both women and men, have been incarcerated in Odisha jails. For example, from In March and april 2026, 8, 2026, to April 8, 2026, within one month, 24 people were sent to jail, 217 were made accused, and the number of “others” total 1,140. An activist who was not named in the original FIRs, but has since been implicated in about 12 cases, so that bail in one case is followed by arrest in another. This pattern of capture and releases have been used to crush rational dissent. Dr. Randall understood that being a good doctor means understanding that prescriptions cannot compensate for the denial of land rights, that surgery cannot undo displacement and that no medical can substitute for the basic infrastructure a government has failed to provide. thehindu.com/sci-tech/health… To my fellow medical fraternity, and every citizen with a conscience: a kind physician who embodies the highest ethics of our profession is being criminalized to clear the way for bauxite mining. Please do not let his voice be buried in a sub-jail. Amplify this, demand due process, and demand the immediate release. Please sign in this form to show solidarity: forms.gle/o2Rj2Uu3tXaoWu9dA If anyone can help out in this situation please reach out to Medico Friend Circle - mfcindia.org/

Two young men on their way to join a peaceful protest were arrested & have been in Tihar Central Jail for 5 days now. This would be unbelievable even in the worst of democracies. Why are we allowing this travesty? If you don’t speak up for them, there’s gonna be no one standing up for you tomorrow. RELEASE @SauravDassss & @AshutoshRanka NOW!

Important: Here’s something that a LOT of people don’t know about what’s actually going on with Delhi Police. CJP’s Saurav Das & Ashutosh Ranka have been sent to 2 more days of judicial custody in Tihar Jail. By a judicial court? NO. They have been kept in Tihar Jail for the last 6 days on the order of a Special Executive Magistrate (SEM). Who is an SEM? He is an ACP-rank (junior) police officer of Delhi Police appointed by the state govt. Therefore, Delhi Police arrested Saurav & Ashutosh & now a Delhi Police ACP (acting as SEM) is keeping them in jail. There’s no FIR against them. There’s also no judicial order. Delhi Police are the accusers & well as the judge when it comes to keeping them in jail. That’s how messed up it is.

At 10:30 pm last night, reports that @odisha_police detained Dr Randall Sequeira, doctor to Adivasi communities, and Laxman Naik, leader of affected villages opposing @Vedanta_Group’s mining in Niyamgiri and Sijimali. Their whereabouts are still unknown, no access to a lawyer.
NEW | Vedanta seems to be attempting to revive its stalled Niyamgiri bauxite mining project despite the Gram Sabhas’ rejection of mining in 2013, raising concerns that the Odisha government may be using the criminal justice system to weaken tribal resistance and clear the way for corporate interests. @Ayaskant_Das reports. frontline.thehindu.com/envir…

Entire lands being grabbed by sets of forged signatures (of villagers) by agents of the Oligarchs. A game perfected in recent years. Thuggery of the worst.
Imagine protesting a mine, only to discover your signature, your deceased parents’ signatures, and almost the entire village’s have allegedly been forged to manufacture consent for it. An explosive investigation by @mhassanism ! aljazeera.com/news/2026/10/1…

With SIR, Aadhaar Voter Id Linking and all other froms of de-duplication software, what the Election Commission does is delete voters suo motu. That deletion of voters without notice and hearing is unconstitutional. That's what software is doing to our electoral rolls.
