Today, virtual school leaders from across our district gathered for a high-impact roundtable focused on student success. Leaders reviewed key data, reflected on core strengths, and identified transformational opportunities for growth unique to their campuses. By sharing non-overlapping challenges and brainstorming proven strategies, we worked together to build practical, measurable next steps for our classrooms.
Collaborating across schools and sharing actionable data is how we continue to #MoveTheNeedle for South Carolina students and build a stronger future for digital learning.
Thank you to South Carolina Virtual Charter School, Odyssey Online Learning, South Carolina Connections Academy, Lowcountry Connections Academy, South Carolina Bridge Connections Academy, Colearn Academy, Heron Virtual Academy of South Carolina, and Cyber Academy of South Carolina.
South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson announced Wednesday that more than $29 million in grants will be distributed to organizations and agencies providing services to crime victims across the state.

I was at an education conference and one of the speakers made a claim that "public dollars for education belong in public schools."
It was an effective sound bite, but I don't follow the logic.
We don't say that public dollars for healthcare belong in public hospitals.
We don't say that public SNAP dollars belong in government-run grocery stores.
We don't say defense dollars belong in government-run defense companies.
In each case, we use public dollars to achieve a public purpose, even when a private organization provides the service.
There’s a stronger argument: should public dollars come with public obligations?
If a school accepts public funding, what should we expect in return? Student safety? Financial transparency? Academic outcomes? Civics education? Something else?
That feels like the debate worth having.

Erskine College’s Charter Day brought students from across the Charter Institute at Erskine to Due West for an inside look at college life. From campus tours to interactive sessions, high schoolers experienced firsthand what it takes to step onto a college campus and prepare for what comes next.
