I, along with the rest of the Deno company, am joining Cloudflare!
I'm motivated by abstractions that give leverage at scale. The Cloudflare workers programming model is a hermetic computing abstraction that truly embodies the old Sun Microsystems tagline "The Network Is the Computer". The programming abstractions that Kenton designed really force scalability. If you squint your eyes you might even conceive of it as a distributed high-level operating system.
The only major problem with this distributed operating system is that practically people only use it inside of Cloudflare. Cloudflare is an amazing service for nearly all applications - but there are many situations when you might need it to run elsewhere.
I want to solve this problem and make the Workers programming model the default way you write server-side application code.
The time is ripe for new abstractions too - what software we run and how we run it are changing quickly with AI. The number of agents is exploding and I don't think they all need a Linux VM. A much more lightweight Durable Object would suffice for many applications. I'm super keen to talk to people who want to self-host agents at scale on DOs - msg me!

ECMAScript excitement 😉
Congrats to @Constellation on shipping @TC39 Stage 3 Import Defer in upstream @webkit heading for Safari 🎉
Import Defer is a performance feature that lets you lazily execute a module on first access to the module namespace 🔥
Would you like to have “Next.js power” in Spring? 👀
Look what we’re exploring: Compose HTML for SSR on JVM + hydration.

We’re bringing IntelliJ IDEA’s intelligence to other editors!
The new Java & Kotlin by IntelliJ IDEA extension is now available in a preview version for VS Code and all its forks, like Cursor and Antigravity.
IntelliJ IDEA’s power – wherever you are. 👇

Honestly, I've felt the same since late 2025.
Roughly 1/3 of my daily interactions with software need a workaround or a hack (if they work at all) - from smart TVs to light bulbs.
In almost every case, it’s a software issue, not hardware.
“React without the historical constraints” - I like this.
Came for SSR + hydration, stayed for the model:
* atomic commits
* execution journal with time-travel replay
* batteries included
I’ll try it and share notes later.

Omg, it's already using Kotlin Toolchain. I've fallen in love.

Big Kotlin/JS testing milestone in 2.4.20:
We’re starting the migration away from Karma (deprecated ~3 years ago) with a new browser-test DSL + Playwright-based implementation.
Huge respect to Karma for serving the ecosystem for so long.

For Kotlin’s 15th anniversary, I consulted the highest authority on Kotlin/JS roadmap planning:
a tarot spread with respectable engineers.
A fantastical contribution from @sjrdoeraene just gave a very real speedup to 64-bit number arithmetic (non-BigInt path).

I’m seeing ~2–3x per-op improvements on average, with peaks around 5x+ (and even 7.3x in more complex benchmarks).

And the cherry on the cake - benchmarks.
Examples:
- EulerBenchmark.problem8: 7.3x faster
- EulerBenchmark.problem9: 5x faster
- FibonacciBenchmark.calcSquare: 5.3x faster
- IntegerSignBenchmark.longSign: 4.6x faster

Huge appreciation to @sjrdoeraene for the publication and porting of the amazing algorithm to Kotlin/JS.
Hope to bring something as valuable to Scala.js one day as well 🙏
