One look at Godot's changelogs over the past year should show you how incredibly embarrassing it is that this billion dollar company can't accomplish anything at all other than whatever this humiliation ritual is.
Completely detached from the wants and needs of their users.
Introducing Unity Spark โ a new way to create a game, iterate on it with others, publish it, and play it - all without writing a line of code.
You'll build with artist-created assets from the Unity Asset Store, and then you can take your game to the next level by refining it in a new web-based editor.
Prompt it. Perfect it. Publish it. Inspired games, with artist-created assets, built on Unity.
Closed beta coming soon.
Got that same feeling, as a maintainer is tiring and demoralizing those "perfectly"-md issues/PRs descriptions, as if the person sending it mastered the problem/solution, not considering that there is an human behind it, reading and really trying hard to understand ๐

I'm 90% confident that 90% of all PRs are now done by AI. Maintaining an open source project just isn't the same anymore. I think AI in programming is incredibly useful, but the feeling of less and less human interaction takes away a lot of the satisfaction of open source.

This is probably the biggest moment of my life ๐ญ After 4 years, the Game UI Bible has finally launched for all the world to see. A 400+ page tome of Game UI/UX goodness, celebrating all the weird and wonderful intricacies of this field.
From a thorough history of UI in games, to games that break all the rules, to Nintendo's forward-thinking approach to interfaces, and UI's influence on branding and meme culture.
Not only that, I got to interview the legendary designers who have worked on some of the most iconic games of all time, giving a deep dive on each one. Fortnite! Half-Life Alyx! The Batman Arkham Trilogy! LittleBigPlanet! Tunic! We have them all!
I am SO proud of this book, and for you all to read it!
From a database to a full-fledged bible! โจ๐บ
We've collabed with @EddCoates on the Game UI Bible, a 500+ page hardback adventure through the UI/UX of loads of your favourite games ๐ฎ
Let us entice you with a limited signed bookplate by Edd himself and more below ๐๐

This has been a great year for the engine, but there are still a lot of things we would love to do.
If each follower donated โฌ5, we could hire 5 more developers to work on Godot full-time.

Much of the industry has been aggressively data-driven for so long that over generations of talent the ability (insututitionally and/or intellectually) to lead with your gut has become a lost art. This is why AAA is becoming perversely fascinated by indie. Indie doesn't have the data; must rely on gut. Sometimes you see games that are doing a very specific thing in AAA (following their gut, their heart) but it's still confined to the institutional practise of parsing it all through available data. The datasets are all increasingly trash because they can't predict breakout hits, nor predict failures. And so if you can't rely on data and you've lost the institutional 'gut instinct' that drives the furore of expression (defines a game), you get stuck. If public, panic. Become safe (which is dangerous). Hence: genres disappear, until indies create breakout hits and introduce new data: perverse attachment, etc etc.
Tl;dr it's because the means to do something you want to do have shrunk because of a bunch of silly shit.
