VIP Wednesday - 1 point win
Think the 13/8 is good value with 365.
10/11 elsewhere. Would imagine this gets backed in more over night.
Decent horse bit to prove for new yard but should be good enough to win here IMO 👍🐎

Obviously no bet today at that price but he looked smart enough on hurdles debut. What’s next for BASS HUNTER 🧐🐎❤️
Stradivarius, a chestnut son of Sea The Stars, carved his name into British racing history as one of the greatest stayers of the modern era. Foaled in 2014 and trained by John and Thady Gosden, he raced from 2016 to 2023, delivering a legacy of remarkable consistency, versatility, and charisma. Owned by Bjorn Nielsen and bred by Prince Khalid Abdullah’s Juddmonte, Stradivarius redefined the staying division, captivating fans with his relentless drive to win.
His career spanned 35 starts, yielding 20 victories, including 10 Group 1 triumphs, and over £3.5 million in UK prize money. Stradivarius dominated staying races, securing three Ascot Gold Cups (2018–2020), a feat only surpassed by Yeats’ four consecutive wins (2006–2009). He claimed four Goodwood Cups (2017, 2019–2021), equaling a historic record, alongside two Doncaster Cups and three Lonsdale Cups. His Timeform rating of 134p reflected elite staying ability, blending stamina with a sharp turn of foot, often guided by jockey Frankie Dettori’s masterful rides.
Stradivarius’ hallmark was longevity. He competed at the highest level for six seasons, a rarity in flat racing, where careers are often brief. His 2018–2020 Gold Cup hat-trick showcased adaptability across varying ground conditions, while battles with rivals like Order of St George and Kyprios cemented his reputation for grit. Beyond statistics, his “showman” personality—described by Gosden—endeared him to fans, making him a household name.
Retired in 2023, Stradivarius now stands at stud, his progeny eagerly awaited due to his illustrious pedigree and racecourse dominance. His legacy transcends numbers: he elevated the staying division’s prestige, proving stayers could rival sprinters and milers in popularity. While not the highest earner (Lord North surpassed £4 million), Stradivarius’ consistent excellence and iconic victories ensure his place among legends like Arkle and Frankel. As British racing evolves, Stradivarius remains a benchmark for equine greatness.

Battaash, a bay gelding by Dark Angel, redefined sprint racing in the UK with his blistering speed and electrifying performances. Foaled in 2014 and trained by Charlie Hills for owner Hamdan Al Maktoum, Battaash raced from 2016 to 2021, becoming one of the most dominant sprinters in modern British racing. His career blended raw pace, tenacity, and a fiery temperament, earning him a lasting legacy.
Over 26 starts, Battaash secured 13 victories, including 6 Group 1 triumphs, and amassed approximately £2.5 million in UK prize money. His signature race was the Nunthorpe Stakes, which he won four times (2017, 2019–2021), a record only surpassed by Tag End’s five non-consecutive wins (1928–1932). He also claimed the King’s Stand Stakes (2017) and Prix de l’Abbaye (2017), with a top recorded speed of 48.63 mph, per Timeform, making him one of the fastest horses in UK history. His Timeform rating of 136 marked him as an elite sprinter, often piloted by jockey Jim Crowley.
Battaash’s brilliance lay in his consistency and adaptability, overcoming early temperament issues to dominate sprint fields. His 2017 Nunthorpe win, at age three, showcased precocious talent, while his 2020–2021 repeat victories proved his enduring class. He thrived on good to firm ground, outpacing rivals like Blue Point and Lady Aurelia in high-stakes races. Despite occasional defeats, his ability to rebound—such as after a 2018 Abbaye loss—highlighted his resilience.
Retired in 2021 due to a minor injury, Battaash did not enter stud as a gelding but left an indelible mark on sprint racing. His legacy lies in elevating the sprint division’s prestige, proving speed could captivate as much as stamina. While his earnings trailed stayers like Stradivarius (~£3.7 million), Battaash’s record-setting Nunthorpe haul and fan appeal cemented his status alongside sprint legends like Dayjur. As British racing evolves, Battaash remains a benchmark for explosive speed and enduring excellence.

We can take 3 places in this 7 runner race and still get 13/2 with 365. Looks good value considering he’s as short as 5/1 with 2 places paid elsewhere.
Although the horse steps up in class he has been running well with 3 runner up places in the last month. His second place here at Sedgefield has taken a nice form boost as the winner TANKING ALONG won last week at Perth in a competitive race.
We were only beaten by the in form PASSING DIAMOND last time out who completed a hat trick when getting the best of us at Hexham. PASSENGER was two lengths behind the winner and the rest of the finishers were 20+ lengths behind so a creditable effort and we escape and punishment from the handicapped today and run from the same mark!
Kemtpon card cancelled today so only Sedgefield to work with - this will probably be the only bet today but I am going to have another look over the card and see if I fancy any more !
Good luck if on ❤️👍🐎

Brian Hughes, born January 22, 1985, in County Armagh, Northern Ireland, has cemented his status as a titan of British National Hunt racing. Raised in a racing family, Hughes began with pony racing at 12, progressing to point-to-points by 15. After moving to England in 2002, he turned professional in 2005, launching a career defined by consistency, grit, and Northern dominance.
Hughes’ breakthrough came early, with his first season yielding 18 winners. By 2010, he was stable jockey for Graham Wylie, amassing over 100 wins annually since 2011. His record-breaking 2019-20 season saw 141 victories, clinching his first Champion Jockey title, a feat he repeated in 2021-22 with 204 wins, the highest single-season tally for a jump jockey since AP McCoy. As of October 2025, Hughes has surpassed 2,500 career wins, a milestone reached in 2023, placing him among jump racing’s elite with a 15% career strike rate.
Major triumphs include the 2017 Scottish Grand National on Vicente and the 2019 Betfair Chase on Lostintranslation. He’s excelled at Cheltenham, with three Festival wins, including the 2022 County Hurdle on State Man. In the 2025-26 season (May 3, 2025–April 25, 2026), Hughes leads the jockeys’ championship with 76 wins from 312 rides (24% strike rate), outpacing rivals like Sean Bowen. His partnership with trainer Donald McCain, alongside rides for James Ewart and Charlie Longsdon, fuels his success.
Despite no Grand National victory, Hughes’ resilience shines through setbacks like a 2018 shoulder injury and fierce title battles. His quiet professionalism contrasts with McCoy’s intensity, yet his work ethic—riding at smaller tracks like Sedgefield—earns respect. Trainer Richard Fahey praises his tactical nous, likening him to a “metronome” for consistency.
Hughes’ legacy lies in elevating Northern racing. At 40, he’s a mentor to young riders, his 1,000th win at Sedgefield in 2017 symbolizing his grassroots commitment. With multiple titles and a potential third championship looming, Hughes blends McCoy’s durability with a reserved charisma, ensuring his place among jump racing’s greats, inspiring a new generation to chase excellence.

3.20 - TALK OF NEW YORK 9/2 - 1 point win & ZEUS OLYMPIOS 10/1 - 0.5 EW
Very hard pick between GSTAAD and TALK OF NEW TORK and again it’s come down to price. GSTAAD is top class and will take all the beating. He’s unlucky to have come up against a generational talent in BOW ECHO this season and hasn’t really put a foot wrong over the summer. He can easily be forgiven for his 3rd place in the Prix Du Molin at Longchamp recently - ground was not in his favour. For those that prefer GSTAAD I think he’s still great value at 5/2 and could go off a bit short by the time of the race.
I’ve bet TALK OF NEW YORK who put to bed any doubters with his last run when winning at Newmarket in a G2. He’s only lost twice this season due to poorly timed rides at both Ascot and Goodwood but more positive tactics last time out showed exactly how good he is when he won easily by nearly 5 lengths and to be fair it didn’t look like he even hit top gear to do so and eased down come the line or it would of been further. I think theres more improvement in this horse and we should see a massive effort here today.
There’s dangers elsewhere with Group winners propping up the rest of the line up. ZEUS OLYMPIOS was second by a neck to RAYIF in the G1 in France - a world class effort considering he did not get ideal ground and that form is solid and franked. He can outrun his odds today and could post a threat to the principles in the market if at best. He’s won at Ascot already this year and beaten shorter price rivals like MORE THUNDER already in the process.
