The Thai Ministry of Culture has sent a letter demanding an apology from Miss Universe Cambodia over its misuse of a historical Thai photograph, believing it was done intentionally to cause misunderstanding about the picture's origin.

Thailand is firing back with historical evidence. 🇹🇭
The Culture Ministry has unveiled glass-plate photographic evidence after images shown at the Miss Universe Cambodia 2026 preliminary round were presented as “Khmer dress and ancient Khmer culture”.
The ministry says the images are actually photographs of women from Kamphaeng Phet, taken in 1906 during the reign of King Chulalongkorn.
The original photographs were published by Thailand’s Fine Arts Department and carried its watermark, which the ministry says was cropped out when the images were used at the pageant. #ThailandCambodia #Thailand #Cambodia – at Pathum Wan, Thailand
