Melville heads lets get together and start the eighty epigraph trend (it goes on for nine more pages and he eventually starts making them up)
I’m certain that others have noticed the popular “two epigraph” trend, in which the first is something esoteric, perhaps from poetry, philosophy, or poetry, and the second is current and quippy. I’m trying to figure out how it emerged, and what the underlying motivations are.

Fantastic moral clarity articulated with care and kindness as always by Ben Crosby here. Grateful that churches in the UK did not face having to create similar resources because I don’t doubt some of the same poor stuff would have been proposed by some shorturl.at/3HAJd

in order for the IT companies that represent 40% (!) of the value of the S&P 500 not to fail, ai hyperscalers need to gain new revenue equivalent to 13% of the GDP of the entire United States in 5 years. their largest estimated revenue source? "new ideas we havent had yet"
A.I. companies will need to find at least $4.2 trillion a year in new revenue by 2031 to pay for their data center buildout, per @BainandCompany.

Every parent wants to keep their child safe. Clean air. Clean water. A safe home. A liveable planet. That’s the future we’re fighting for.

Karl Marx’s “Capital” is filled with factory inspectors' reports on the exploitation of children, and those pages are some of the angriest he ever wrote: jacobin.com/2026/09/marx-chi…

Slightly surreal experience of pulling up to deliver a parcel to a care home today just as a body was being wheeled out. Trying to respectfully walk into the lobby and wincing at the beep as I scanned the packet. then the private ambulance guys bowed after they closed the boot

Add in that this is quite a swish old folk’s home, the mortuary van was a very nice grey Mercedes van and there was a white rose placed on the stretcher. What does this same event look like at a state run nursing home? Do they get a rose, or a bow? Does that bow mean the same?

The way we deal with dead people in a largely non-religious but still quite instinctually spiritual society is fascinating to me and something that relatively few people come into contact with.

Beside the fact that this is a pagan take, you will also note some Christians who respond as if this were a temporary defeat before Christ returns and reasserts pagan dominance over His enemies. The truth of the matter is even more radical: this itself is the victory.
Prey Moralists tell you this is a victory for the lamb.
