🚨#Bitcoin will go to zero as the U.S. government phases out the elliptic curve algorithms it uses. If Bitcoin doesn't transition to #quantum-resistant, it will inevitably cause irreversible losses to investors. 😭 #Whistleblower NIST IR 8547 LINK👇 nvlpubs.nist.gov/nistpubs/ir…

Andreas Hülsing is an exceptional cryptographer who has contributed to NIST’s post-quantum cryptography standardization process. A cryptographic code review conducted by someone of his caliber carries real weight. If Bitcoin is going to transition to quantum-resistant cryptography, which exceptional cryptographers are actually involved? @JohannesBuchma3 @hashbreaker @cr_yp_to @neha @isabelfoxenduke
In February 2018, the Mochimo developers contracted Andreas Hülsing, the cryptographer behind WOTS+, to review their cryptographic code. The white paper reports that the implementation was found free of material defects. mochimo.org/assets/files/moc… #Mochimo

Should Bitcoiners get more involved in the NIST process? @neha shares concerns about developing unique PQ signatures for Bitcoin vs using NIST standardized signatures.   My gut says debates about NIST will heat up as the PQ discussion escalates. Curious to get more voices to explore this on the show. Looking at you @hashbreaker

Quantum is coming. If Bitcoin keeps delaying its transition to be quantum-resistant, it will go to zero.

Why are governments and industries around the world transitioning to be quantum-resistant while the Bitcoin community keeps saying quantum computing is fake, that quantum computers can never be built, or that the threat is still 20 years away—and continues to delay its own quantum-resistant transition?
WARNING: The U.S. government has accelerated its quantum cybersecurity timeline, requiring key federal systems to transition to post-quantum cryptography by 2031.

Quantum is coming. The question is what we should be doing about it now. @rcarback goes beyond the hype at what quantum computing means for crypto, security, and the systems we’re building today. @quipnetwork

Privacy matters but secure does most especialy quantum-secure! "It will likely take years of research and scrutiny before there is enough confidence in these constructions for use in Bitcoin applications — and realistically, that confidence may..." Eli👇 nitter.cf/EliBenSasson/status/21…
While I deeply respect the cryptographic research that @nemothenoone and the @allocinitxyz team are pursuing to enable covenants on Bitcoin without a soft fork, it’s worth emphasizing that the cryptography underlying this approach is still highly experimental, and its security assumptions are far from established. It will likely take years of research and scrutiny before there is enough confidence in these constructions for use in Bitcoin applications — and realistically, that confidence may never materialize. I love the boldness of their vision and I’m impressed by the progress so far. At the same time, I think it’s important that the community has a clear understanding of where the research currently stands and how uncertain its practical viability remains from a cryptographic perspective.

With all due respect, Bitcoin still does not have a suitable quantum-resistant algorithm ready for use. Even though NIST has standardized post-quantum algorithms, those algorithms were not selected specifically for Bitcoin’s use case. Bitcoin also still faces many other obstacles to transitioning to be quantum-resistant…
Give institutions and governments a little more time to research whether Bitcoin can successfully migrate to quantum-resistant! This is a list I compiled several years ago outlining the obstacles to Bitcoin’s migration to quantum-resistant. Perhaps I will add a few more fatal obstacles in the future. 1. No suitable quantum-resistant algorithm 2. Hash-based and lattice-based algorithms have excessively large public keys and signatures 3. Migrating to quantum-resistant algorithms could cause severe on-chain congestion and even paralysis 4. Quantum-resistant algorithms result in a significant reduction in transaction efficiency 5. Increased node and transaction fees 6. Who has the authority to freeze or burn Satoshi’s addresses and other lost addresses 7. The aggregation threshold in quantum-resistant algorithms is challenging 8. Taproot makes the transition to quantum-resistant even more difficult 9. High hardware upgrade costs 10. 1MB block size is not suitable for quantum-resistant algorithms 11.Achieving global consensus is extremely difficult and more...

I have another question about Bitcoin’s quantum-resistant transition. If a person or team is choosing the algorithm and modifying its parameters, why should we trust their judgment? How can we know that those choices are secure and reliable?

Computers, whether quantum or classical, depend on algorithms. Quantum computing, however, needs a larger toolkit of standardized operations. @BrookhavenLab scientists and partners developed a quantum version of an important classical operation: bnl.gov/newsroom/news.php?a=…

IBM cut the cost of quantum error mitigation by 63x. - The technique combines error detection with probabilistic error cancellation on a 156-qubit Heron processor - Sampling overhead dropped from 85,000 to 1,359 at six Trotter steps - Multiple independent research groups converged on the same idea, which validates the approach - The remaining overhead still scales exponentially with circuit noise - Zero bearing on the timeline to a cryptographically relevant quantum computer IBM is making near-term quantum processors more useful for physics simulations. The technique extends what noisy machines can do today. It does not change when fault-tolerant machines arrive or when encryption is at risk. IBM spends circuit repetitions to handle errors. Quantinuum and QuEra spend physical qubits. Neither is universally better. The right choice depends on the hardware. 🚨If Satoshi never comes back online, his Bitcoin could be in serious trouble.
SATOSHI'S BITCOIN IS DOOMED UNLESS HE COMES BACK ONLINE. Not all bitcoin is equally exposed to quantum. Modern addresses hide the public key until you spend, so your coins are safe until they move. Satoshi's coins weren't made that way, the earliest bitcoin used a format where the public key sits exposed on the blockchain forever. About 1.1 million BTC, worth almost $100 billion, untouched since 2010, keys visible to anyone. There are exactly two ways to protect a bitcoin from a quantum computer such as never exposing its public key, or move it to a quantum safe address. Satoshi's coins fail the first permanently and the second requires a signature from his private key. Nobody can migrate coins on someone else's behalf. So unless the person holding those keys logs on and moves them, the coins sit exposed until a machine can run Shor's algorithm at scale. Then whoever runs it derives the key and gets access to them as Satoshi. The clock has dates now, with IonQ's blueprint this month stating 20,000 qubits breaks Bitcoin's curve in 26 days, targeted for 2028. $BTC $IONQ $INFQ

Governments are changing how they fund quantum. DOE's Quantum Genesis pays on milestones, not grants: earn as you validate, from 10 logical qubits toward 100+. NM, IL, and TN are matching federal dollars in weeks. Yuval Boger explains in Q-Rated Ep 2: youtu.be/o9U4PA4cjXc
