That feeling when you want to go monk mode on your special project to save humanity but you can’t stop thinking about that one special girl
One thing I noticed about using LLMs as a springboard for ideas is that I get to a point where I have less of a form feel of the idea being good or slop because the model has gassed it up so much that it makes me weary of sycophancy
Where are all the old school web dev accounts at? The ones just learning to code without constant talk of ai?
How do you change your energy levels so people are less likely to try to boss you around? Tpot, do your thing.
Humans & AI will just coexist bro. Nothing to worry about… bro
I was there Friday night in San Francisco for the @REK event, and this is something you had be in the room to get it, but I’ll try to describe it.
It hit completely differently from robot-versus-robot fights. Those are entertaining, sure, but after a while they start to feel strange. You’re empathizing with machines that aren’t conscious, don’t feel pain, and don’t feel anything. Robot versus human hits different and raw, it was an emotional rollercoaster. I felt real fear for the human fighter, and real excitement, mostly fear, and when it ended there was a huge wave of relief.
The robots were remote-controlled, of course, but the kicks were genuinely powerful. We know how power-dense those actuators are, and the human fighter took real hits to his body. The kicks from the six-foot-tall EngineAI T800 seemed nearly impossible to dodge when they were hurled in the right direction. The Unitree H1 was even harder to deal with because its dynamic balance is so good that it just refused to go down.
This could be the start of a genuinely new entertainment genre. But I can tell you this: if someone wants to fight a robot with a real AI brain and real perception, you’d need robots that are far less powerful, throttled down, and compliant. Otherwise it ends in serious injury or worse.
This is the beginning of something different in robotics and entertainment, and we need to think seriously about it before regulators use moments like this as fearmongering fodder to throttle the entire humanoid frontier.
The thing about alignment research is that there is not a clean split between “getting the model to do what the user wants” (product focused) & “keep a self directed ai from overpowering humanity” (essentially, new species focused)
AI safetyists are so incompetent & mimetically limp they actively refer to themselves using the slurs accelerationists created for them
“We have to ensure America maintains the lead in AI. If we don’t, China will take the lead & ASI will be aligned to Commie values. But if America maintains the lead, ASI will be aligned with American values like free speech & Sunday night football. Because of course, ASI will somehow be smart enough to take over the world but will simultaneously be too dumb to think up its own philosophy to live by & will totally look to us humans for political guidance”.
So it appears @gmiller has me blocked. It’s weird because I don’t remember having any unfriendly interactions with him.
Two things can be true simultaneously:
1. ai represents a genuine risk of human extinction
2. The people who are most concerned about it now are mostly neurotic types because the human brain often requires a certain level of neurodivergence to actually care about such (currently) seemingly sci-fi level issue
This is why the correlation between decels & neuroticism seems so high
