1. Oh shit, AI can do my job better than me
2. Software engineering is dead!
3. I can vibe code as much slop as I want!
4. Oh, things are not going well. Fable/Sol/Opus all suuuck
5. But what if I constrain the agent? Put it in a straitjacket?
6. Oh, the results are pretty good now. How do I go deeper?
7. *Orders 12 software engineering books from Amazon*
8. Software engineering is alive!

It's the end of the week. If you have some tokens lying around, maybe spend them on open source! pnpm still has 629 open issues on GitHub.
You may use this prompt or write one yourself:

Trick Gemini Flash into thinking it has the moves of Opus, and you get to keep quite a bit (~92%) of it's power in short to mid-range tasks. Pretty wild.
wr% leaps from 60% to 78% in my validation set made up of SWE Pro tasks. Likewise w/ Luna/Sol too.

Did you know you can create the Maxwell-Boltzmann distribution with just some balls and a motor?
I built this simple device to illustrate it.
This is how it works: A spinning agitator pumps energy into ~400 balls, so they bounce around and collide like gas particles in a box.
They escape one at a time through a tiny hole, then fall a fixed gap into bins below. Since the hole is so small, every ball leaves with no vertical speed and takes the same time to fall.
Constant fall time means how far a ball flies sideways is set purely by its speed. A faster ball goes into a further bin. So each bin is really a speed. Tally all 400 and you get the Maxwell-Boltzmann distribution.

TigerBeetle came out of a real problem:
- The design was sketched with a sharpie on a boardroom table, in about 30 mins, the day I first saw the problem (March 11, 2020).
- But we then did 4 months of part time analysis to understand the problem more deeply (tracing all SQL queries and application logic of a central bank transaction processing system) and let the design simmer…
- Finally, the first prototype of TB (to prove out the 1000x performance differential) was coded in a 5 hour sprint on a rainy Sunday afternoon in July 2020, sitting in front of the fire place, with a glass of red wine, listening to the Black Keys.
That did 400K TPS, proving out the performance cost of the big ideas. From there it was a month to create AlphaBeetle in Zig. Then 90 days for BetaBeetle in Zig. Then TigerBeetle ever since…

VS code/Cursor extensions are a supply chain attack waiting to happen, and have many times... They all contain a crazy amount of node/JS junk, they're often owned by randos, they silently update, nobody looks at them and the security model is shit. Use restricted marketplaces.
1/ We are sharing additional details regarding our investigation into unauthorized access to GitHub's internal repositories.
Yesterday we detected and contained a compromise of an employee device involving a poisoned VS Code extension. We removed the malicious extension version, isolated the endpoint, and began incident response immediately.

Two of my favorite tools were merged together, Obsidian and DuckDB.
@mehd_io created an Obsidian Plugin to run and show inline SQL queries locally, in-memory, or even on remote files via http, or remote DWH with MotherDuck.
Below is how it looks inside, and amazingly, it allows Obsidian to "freeze" remote results in offline Markdown notes.
Imagine every pixel on your screen, streamed live directly from a model. No HTML, no layout engine, no code. Just exactly what you want to see.
@eddiejiao_obj, @drewocarr and I built a prototype to see how this could actually work, and set out to make it real. We're calling it Flipbook. (1/5)

As of today, Drizzle has become the most sustainablest ORM on Earth 🚀
PlanetScale hired entire Drizzle core team to work on Drizzle ORM full-time, which is just… WOW!
I mean, I can’t believe this is happening and how amazing this is going to be...
Let’s address the most important things:
▪︎ The governance of Drizzle does not and will not change
▪︎ Drizzle remains independent and open-source
▪︎ We will now work more full-timer on Drizzle ORM, Kit and Studio
▪︎ Our social media manager(me) will finally have a salary
▪︎ Drizzle v1 is going to be amazing
Thank you all for using Drizzle, without you there won’t be 1.2k GitHub issues and 355 PRs, we’d live a happy life, touching grass ❤️

Most developers I know complains about the performance of Web Streams.
I'm glad that my friend James Snell is trying to fix it. Here is a new proposal for streams in JS.
In some cases, this is a 90x throughput increase. You've read it right!
