My faculty colleagues and I have been banned from Widener Library for two weeks to punish us for reading quietly while displaying quotations from the Library's statement of values
Roughly 25 Harvard professors conducted a silent study-in at Widener Library on Wednesday to protest the library’s decision to temporarily ban pro-Palestine students who held a similar demonstration last month. @tillyrobin and @neilhshah15 report. thecrimson.com/article/2024/…

Palestinians being rounded up and executed by Israel as the world watches on. I don’t ever want to hear the words human rights and international law mentioned again. They don’t exist.

Israel’s military offensive and siege pose an existential threat to Palestinians in Gaza. The UK Government must end its complicity in Israel’s war on Palestinians and immediately halt ALL arms transfers to Israel. Take action now: map.org.uk/campaigns/email-y…

A seemingly modern moment of abstraction in a medieval manuscript, representing silence as a yellow rectangle: publicdomainreview.org/colle… “And when he opened the 7th seal, there followed a silence in heaven about the space of half an hour” (Silos Apocalypse, BL Add MS 11695)

In the late forties, a young lady came into our shop, spent a few hours immersed in the books and left, empty handed. The following day, she was back, again immersed herself in the books and this time, bought two books. Our mother was intrigued by her and asked, /1 – at Galway, Ireland

Franciszka Themerson’s paintings and drawings may have an air of the doodle but her work is politically radical and thrillingly inventive, writes Dennis Duncan.

Imagine arguing that a 7-yr old is mature enough to testify for 90 minutes before a judge on his/her right to access a book in the library, but also arguing he is not old enough to access a book about two male penguins who worked together to hatch and egg. politico.com/news/2024/07/23…

The judge who sentenced the JSO activists was previously "very lenient" towards an on-duty police officer who had sex with a drunk woman he'd offered a ride home. The judge said the officer had acted in a "moment of madness", and he avoided jail time. itv.com/news/central/2024-01…
⛓️ To give you a sense of how horrifying and brutal these prison sentences for #JustStopOil activists are: Average sentence for violent crime = 1.7 years. Average sentence for the JSO activists = 4.3 years.
