There's something poetic about a QB named Barnes wearing No. 17 in an Argo game.

OV demanding to know why McKenzie hasn't been playing Mike all season in 3-2-1.

This is bang on. It makes no sense that a guy would have been approaching his snap limit early in the second quarter, and no one can explain it.
The designated American issue the @argos are managing in their game right now is crazy. No league should have a rule that 99.999999999 per cent of fans can’t explain. #CFL

For some reason, the Argos have a history of allowing QBs who've barely played in the CFL to have tremendous games. James Franklin and Caleb Evans come immediately to mind. Is it happening again?

This is great news for Wings fans. I also have zero interest in him being traded. He's one of a kind.
Shawn Horcoff to media “I have zero interest in trading Simon Edvinsson”. Notes he is an important piece to the team. Let's get a contract done then.

Wonderful tribute to my late colleague and friend Helen Branswell, a giant of journalism. When she stood to ask a question at a newser, it was like "Babe Ruth striding up to home plate.” RIP HB.
The STAT family received some devastatingly sad news this morning. Helen Branswell, a beloved colleague and renowned infectious disease reporter, passed away. A beautiful tribute to Helen, written with love by our colleague @DrewQJoseph Helen will be greatly missed. statnews.com/2026/10/13/hele…

I have no idea how the algorithms work on this infernal platform, but it gives me pleasure nonetheless to see Helen trending.

I will never forget how Helen educated me and other @CanadianPress execs about SARS in the early 2000s. She was instrumental in helping us prepare to protect our staff if it came to that.

We also had lots of fun mixed in with serious reporting when we worked side by side in Calgary, including the 1988 Winter Olympics. Helen ribbed me mercilessly for letting her get stuck covering the endless Dome Petroleum saga. But she did it better than I would have.

It's both amazing and not surprising how many people seem to equate singing talent with pitch, timbre and other sonic qualities. You can "suck" at singing and still be a great singer.
Name a famous singer who has achieved fame and fortune despite having no singing talent. I’ll start: Bruce Springsteen

This is by far the best combo in the current configuration IMO. Love the Cambridge socks with the Oxford pants!

It's painful to say that Red Wings ownership might be the worst the league has seen since Harold Ballard. This 10-year playoff drought looks like just the beginning. If anything could drive me away from fandom, this is it.

Larkin trade request. Yzerman let go. No GM all summer. Hiring process failed. Last minute interim GM. Missed 8 year extension window. Roster holes, basement projections. All-time bad vibes coming into the season. Why pile on more? Help yourself! It's a free square! #LGRW

I have felt for a long time that the underlying problem holding the Red Wings back is that ownership is unwilling to spend on the club. Ilitch sure isn't his dad.
NEW: The Red Wings should have had a contract with Simon Edvinsson a week ago. That they still don’t after a full preseason — and reportedly prefer a bridge — is the latest sign of an organization that just keeps kicking the can down the road. Column: nytimes.com/athletic/7630652…

Given what happened to Hamilton this year, why wouldn't Kelly's agent ask for an outlandish amount?
"Meaningfully engage" is the key term. It sounds like there have been negotiations but that Kelly's number and MLSE's number aren't as close as they would like it to be. Truthfully, the #Argos can't afford to lose him. You can't contend in this league without an elite QB.

I was fortunate to have a few challenging and fulfilling jobs over the years. One of the most C&F was covering hockey and football for a news agency. Such a rush to have to file complete story at the final buzzer, especially from a western time zone to AM papers down east. <2
For anyone who might be curious what a sportswriter's job is like, humorist Dave Barry has a wonderful piece on Substack about his lovely wife Michelle Kaufman (with whom I covered many a sporting event), who just got "terminated" by the @MiamiHerald after 40-odd years. It's good

The Dave Barry column Cam mentions captures it very well. Nothing like a CFL game where the lead changes hands twice in final minute and it's coming up on 12:30 a.m. in the East. Exhilarating (and slightly terrifying at times).

Not taking anything away from Jim Evenson, but his induction into the @CFHOFandM strengthens the case for the late DK Smith IMO. It was already very strong, and I suspect it's off-field reasons holding him back. <2

Like Evenson, DK played 7 seasons, was a multi-time all-star and was one of the most dominant at his position. His career numbers are incredibly similar to 3 recent inductees: Greer, Fernandez and D. Williams. He's overdue, as Evenson was.

So after wasting 2-plus hours on the phone with @Bell over 2 days, I'm now told the "offer" does not apply to Bell customers who pay for TSN in their Bell cable package. It applies, I'm told, only to those who subscribe to TSN directly thru Bell Media. <2
Replying to @pxw13
Sounds like technical issues, not that you don't have access. You can try seeing what support the TSN app offers (though I'm not optimistic)

And I think it's debatable whether the disclaimer in the communications I received -- "This offer is available as long as you maintain your Bell TV TSN subscription" -- would truly disqualify me. I subscribe to TSN through Bell TV. Would be an interesting legal challenge. <4

This type of garbage (as well as the constant fee increases) is a big reason why a growing number of people have gone to grey-market IPTV, to bypass the telcos (and, unfortunately, screw the copyright owners).
