Kenso Soai – awarded the 2026 #NobelPrize in Chemistry – designed the first chemical reaction in which only one of the potential mirror images was formed. Other than life itself, no one had ever achieved this feat. The Soai reaction is one of the most spectacular chemical experiments ever conducted.

This summer, the 46th ICCC will take place in Denmark. As part of the conf., @carolhua.bsky.social and I are org. a symposium on chemical sensing using inorg. and hybrid materials (inc. MOFs). We would be happy to see contrib. from researchers at all stages of their careers.

Happy to share the first article of 2026🎉 Instead of tuning silver nanocluster fluorescence via DNA base sequences, we modified the sugar backbone using XNAs, expanding the chemical space to tune emission properties. @RoySocChem @nanoscale_rsc @novonordiskfond @roskildeuni

The BBC censored my line about Trump's corruption, turned off the comment section on YouTube, and sat on the video versions for three weeks... ... still, I’m genuinely glad to see so many people watching (and commenting on) my Reith Lectures 🥳. Here's the first one:

Big thanks to Leticia for a great collaboration and big respect to Ana María Pablo-Sainz-Ezquerra and Marta Rubio-Huertas for huge effort on this demonstration of how metal organic frameworks can be used to encapsulate functional proteins

This year’s chemistry laureate Omar Yaghi was born in Amman, Jordan, in 1965 to parents who were refugees from Palestine. When we spoke to him he shared his story: “I grew up in a very humble home, we were a dozen of us in one room, sharing it with the cattle that we used to raise. I was born in a family of refugees, and my parents could barely read or write. My father finished sixth grade and my mother couldn’t read or write. It’s quite a journey. Science allows you to do it. Science is the greatest equalising force in the world. Smart people, talented people, skilled people exist everywhere. That’s why we really should focus on unleashing their potential through providing them with opportunity.” Today Yaghi shared the 2025 Nobel Prize in Chemistry with Susumu Kitagawa and Richard Robson for their work developing metal–organic frameworks.
