That is not even controversial.
BC added heroic modes, flying mounts, daily quests, badges, token gear, socketed gear, class parity ...
BC definitely laid the foundation of systems that in later expansions were "perfected" to create the modern-day retail industry.
People still remember it fondly, as the striking aura and appeal of vanilla continued to overlay everything otherwise questionable.
"It's in the TOS. Read the TOS. You should have played by the rules..."
Do you even listen to yourselves?
You guys all big fans of the death sentence in real life?
Once more: it's a company's choice how to deal with a (minor) issue like this, especially after newly introducing this double-naming feature... in a BETA.
They have all the tools in place. Renaming works. Simple tick of a box. They could have done a blank renaming push. Easy solution. In the meantime nobody needs to be "offended" in the game world, because until you're renamed you cannot log in. It would also "educate" people on what Blizzard considers "offensive" and what is not. Then for launch everyone would be on the same page.
But they chose the "death penalty." At least in my case, and as I saw in a lot of other cases. No appeal. No probation. That is a deliberate choice you make as a company. Instantly alienate a lot of players and lose money, or be reasonable and give a second chance.
Again, it's a game. People have different understandings of fun. People have different understandings of what qualifies as "offensive."
And I find it particularly hilarious when those people throw in the argument of "grow up" in the context of A FUCKING VIDEO GAME. 🤦♂️ Oh the irony...
Blizzard chose how to handle it on their end. I chose my reaction. Refunds work. If not, chargebacks do.
Keep in mind that attending on November 4th requires only a subscription. No woke Elves. Much of the goodwill toward those seeking a less “uptight” vanilla experience has already been spend.

Oh look ... all the retards in the comments here turned out wrong!
What a surprise!
Not. 😒
"After further review, the Forever team writes that although the account contained characters with inappropriate names, the appropriate action would have been to issue character renames rather than fully remove the account from the beta. Access is restored, and the flagged characters got sent to the rename screen."

The email is short and it does not hedge. After further review, the Forever team writes that although the account contained characters with inappropriate names, the appropriate action would have been to issue character renames rather than fully remove the account from the beta. Access is restored, and the flagged characters got sent to the rename screen.
That is the punishment loop closing on itself. This same week, the blue post said Customer Service cannot and will not assist with any appeals, and the producer put the share of names that earned an exit at 0.18%. Now the accounts come back one by one, and nobody announced anything, players just started posting the emails.
What is left is a rename and a beta slot, for the people who pushed until someone re-read their case.
Was the reversal owed to everyone the first time, or should a bad joke name never have cost beta access at all?
They can pull every unused alt name from the database overnight and ban people who never even logged in.
The guy screaming gold ads in Stormwind for three hours straight?
“It’s complicated.” 🤡
What is truly disappointing is that this name ban spectacle reveals one point clearly: where the company directs its focus.
You can’t do everything and certainly not all at the same level of quality. Resources are limited. Yet if you deliberately choose to concentrate on manually reviewing and banning people over trivial names, it suggests your focus is misplaced.
It indicates a company has lost sight of what really matters. This “issue” used to be very low on the list. Simple filter and blacklist, AI scan that prompts auto renaming, player reports all things reasonable in a beta and even in a release. Worry about bugs and important issues.
But no .. we need to manually ban bad kiddies playing our game wrong. 🤡

It could be soooo easy if only there was sane management.
Retail = is for the retards.
Forever (Classic+) = is for the OG gamers.
But noooo .... we are doing the clownshow again! Cause it worked so well the first time ... 🤡

Wow ... another snowflake melted away. Just like this.
@FwoiblesWoW RIP bozo.
If @Blizzard_Ent shows proof this dude found a new home at McDonalds I am sure a lot of gamers open their wallet again ... 😉

Love the people who put “Senior Producer, Blizzard” in the bio then pretend the “opinions my own” disclaimer actually works.
It doesn’t. You’re tied to the company. Own it or stay off the clock.
This is exactly why it always reflects poorly on the employer.
As a company owner I’d fire them on the spot.

During this whole discourse I understand retail beta chucks more and more.
Imagine being so devoted you have no spine. Daddy Blizzard says “chargeback equals a ban,” and your entire personality becomes “better shut up or you’ll get spanked.”
Pathetic.
Go kneel so nobody touches your precious retail achievements.
🤣🤡
This or Retail 2.0.

That is more than half a million EACH month in subscription $$$, generated by Olympus members alone, for @Blizzard_Ent.
Not sure if anyone in accounting is watching and may want to have a word with @FwoiblesWoW.

That is exactly the point.
They have RECORD numbers in Forever.
In a BETA!
But they better be aware WHO is showing up.
Imo it is definitely not the Retail crowd that makes up for those numbers.
Definitely not a crowd that likes to be bossed around, told what to do and how to behave and how to play.
I mean, Classic+ was nothing Blizz did voluntarily in the first place. It was forced upon them by the community.
I said it early… unfortunately my bet is on them fucking up again and ending with Retail 2.0.
And currently they are speedrunning …
Never forget .. the first “piece” of “original” content they added to Forever was litterally a blue woke elf race you have to pay 30$ to play.
The stuff people ACTUALLY join in record numbers for is 21 years old.
Let that sink in. 🚰
I’m not going to pretend every banned name on this beta was a misunderstood joke. Some people went looking for the line. Fine. Blizzard can enforce a naming policy.
What they cannot do — and what they just did — is treat “the most extreme violations” as a slogan while handing out the same hammer for names that don’t even come close.
Then an email that says “highly offensive language,” no named characters, no rename, no appeal, no refund. Customer Support is explicitly told not to touch it. The development team reviewed it. That’s the whole process.
That last part is the part that matters. A beta is where you find out the dual-name system produces dumb combinations, that filters miss things, that a surname is not a loophole and also not a crime. The adult response is: force the rename, keep the tester, log the miss, ship the filter. The response they chose was: immediate removal from a basically paid test, no path back, and a public reminder that this was for the worst of the worst.
A company that would rather disappear a tester than admit the process is sloppy in a beta. That isn’t moderation. It’s little-fascist admin cosplay: rule first, justify never, and sneer at anyone who asks which word was the crime.
Good luck in November and remember safe names only! So reserve early Lily Sunflower, Bunny Rainbow or Sparkle Meadow. 🤡
Thank you @PayPal for being reasonable!
Unlike @Blizzard_Ent. 🤡
Got this beauty in my inbox today, thank you @Blizzard_Ent!
Forever will go EXACTLY as I predicted... unfortunately.

Boi oh boi.
WoW Forever has been in beta for, what, 3 days?
And we’re already at the “Blizzard NEEDS to change XYZ” phase. 😂
This is going to be the real end boss for Blizzard:
Can they actually resist listening to every Retail Andy who shows up with a 14-point manifesto about how the game should work?
Or do we speedrun straight into Retail 2.0?
Given the current dev team… I’m not exactly betting the house on option #1. 💀
