Sold as Green. Tested as Toxic..
We bought 17 firecrackers from Mohammedali Road and Kurla on 9th and 10th October and sent them for chemical testing. Every one was sold as a "Green Cracker." 12 of the 17 contained barium, a toxic metal. Some had no QR code at all, and some QR codes turned out to be fake.
Mumbai Police have banned firecrackers in public spaces until January 2027. But Durga Puja, Dussehra, Guru Nanak Jayanti, Christmas and New Year are all coming, and winter is when pollutants settle and get breathed in. Mumbai's AQI has already slipped from "Good" to "Moderate" (101), with PM2.5 at 103 in Kherwadi this morning.
We have written to Hon'ble CM Devendra Fadnavis asking that the ban be enforced at every stage: distribution, sale and use. Crackers that are falsely labelled green or contain banned chemicals should not be sold, and the Police and MCGM license the outlets that sell them. Loudspeakers and laser lights need the same limits during all festivals.

We warned this would happen. A landfill cannot be turned into a “green zone” by simply planting thousands of saplings on flattened garbage. Bhalswa’s bamboo plantation has now failed with leachate/unsuitable soil conditions cited for plants not surviving. Site is back to dumping inert waste. Landfill reclamation needs science, remediation, leachate management, safe soil and long term monitoring, not
photo-ops.
Planting bamboo on Bhalswa landfill isn't a green solution, it's greenwashing. Delhi generates over 11,000 tonnes of waste daily, with only 55% segregated at source. Without proper waste segregation & management, such efforts are mere optics not helping in anyway to reduce these landfills.
Even if the bamboo survives, it will only contribute to leachate.

BMC has lodged a police complaint in this case.
FIR No. 1336/2026 was registered at Oshiwara Police Station on September 16, Wednesday under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The police investigation and BMC’s departmental and contractual proceedings are under way.
BMC said that it strongly condemns any unauthorised dumping of waste into nallas, water bodies or public places. “Such conduct is completely contrary to the purpose of source segregation and scientific waste management,” said a civic official.
A dry waste collection vehicle deployed by the BMC in Andheri’s Lokhandwala area was caught dumping waste into the Mogra nullah on Monday morning, leading to the civic body to issue a show-cause notice to the agency concerned and warn of cancellation of its work order.

खारघरमध्ये भाजप कार्यकर्त्यांच्या हाती SIR मोहिमेचे फॉर्म असल्याचं नागरिकांनीच रंगेहात पकडल्याने निवडणूक आयोगाच्या कथित पारदर्शक SIR मोहिमेचा पर्दाफाश झाला. यामुळं SIR ही मोहीम कशी फसवी आणि नावापुरती राबवली जाते हे स्पष्ट झालं. या मोहिमेच्या माध्यमातून भाजप आपल्या पुढील विजयाचा पाया घालण्याचा कसा प्रयत्न करत आहे, हे आम्ही वारंवार सांगत आलो असून त्याला आजच्या या घटनेने एकप्रकारे पुष्टीच मिळाली आहे. याबाबत आम्ही निवडणूक आयोगाकडेही विचारणा केली परंतु केंद्रीय निवडणूक आयोगाकडं हात दाखवून त्यांनी आपली सुटका करून घेतली.
आता निवडणूक आयोग या भाजप कार्यकर्त्यांवर काय कारवाई करतं, याकडे आमचं लक्ष आहे. पण या मोहिमेच्या माध्यमातून जे काही चाललं ते संविधानाच्या विरोधात असून यावर सामान्य लोकांनीही आवाज उठवला पाहिजे.

या प्रकरणांमध्ये प्रथमदर्शनी गंभीर आरोप, अनेक बेरोजगार तरुणांची फसवणूक, बनावट नियुक्तीपत्रे, बनावट शासकीय कागदपत्रांचा वापर आणि तपासासाठी कोठडीची आवश्यकता यांसारख्या बाबी लक्षात घेता अटकपूर्व जामीन देणे योग्य ठरणार नाही से न्यायालयाने म्हटले आहे.तसेच या आधीच्या २०१६ आणि २०१७ मधील गुन्ह्यांची माहिती आरोपीने लपवल्याचेही न्यायालयाने म्हटले आहे.राजेंद्र खेडेकर आणि त्याच्या टोळीने शेकडो तरूणांचा फसवणूक केली आहे.
आता देवस्थान ट्रस्टने खेडेकरच्या कारनाम्याच्या चौकशीची मागणी केली असली तरी मुळात गंभीर गुन्हे प्रलंबित असताना खेडेकरची जेजुरीसारख्या श्रद्धास्थानाच्या विश्वस्तपदावर नियुक्ती झालीच कशी? कुणाचा राजकीय वरदहस्त आहे त्याला?. विश्वस्तपदावर असलेल्या व्यक्तीबाबत असे गंभीर आरोप समोर येणे अत्यंत चिंताजनक आहे. अशा परिस्थितीत धर्मादाय आयुक्त आणि शासन यांनी या प्रकरणाची गंभीर दखल घेऊन विश्वस्तपदाबाबत योग्य निर्णय घ्यावा, अशी अपेक्षा आहे.

ज़िले ज़िले में थर्ड क्लास कॉलेज भरे पड़े हैं जहाँ तीन साल के लिए छात्रों को बंद कर उनकी क्षमता ख़त्म की जाती है। छात्राएँ वाक़ई मेहनत करती हैं कि किसी तरह गैप कम हो सके, दिन रात पढ़ती हैं लेकिन परीक्षा से पहले उनकी शिक्षा का घटिया स्तर बर्बाद कर चुका होता है। आप हिन्दी प्रदेश के किसी भी ज़िले के किसी कॉलेज में जाकर पढ़ाई का हाल देख लीजिए। इन बच्चों को पता ही नहीं कि अच्छा कॉलेज क्या होता है, अच्छा प्रोफ़ेसर क्या होता है। और अब तो धर्म और संस्कृति के नाम पर पढ़ाने वाले अपना विषय छोड़ कर टाइम काट रहे हैं। इस पतन को कोई ठीक नहीं कर सकता। भयानक रूप से उनके सपनों की हत्या कर दी गई है। अदाणी पूर्व NDTV में मैंने ऐसे ही कई ज़िलों की यूनिवर्सिटी और कॉलेज पर सीरीज़ की थी। आज भी कोई सुधार नहीं है। एक दिन नहीं कई हफ़्ते तक इसी पर वीडियो बनाया था जब गोदी मीडिया रिया चक्रवर्ती को अपराधी बताने के लिए हफ़्तों कवरेज करता था। अफसोस कि हिन्दी प्रदेश के बच्चों को शिक्षा ने ही बर्बाद किया हैं। मंदिर के भरोसे सपना देख रहे थे वहां चंदे चढ़ावे में ही चोरी हो गई। इनका क़सूर नहीं। काश कोई इन्हें अच्छी शिक्षा देता तो यही विद्यार्थी भारत में कमाल करते और भारत दुनिया में ।
