The entire city of San Francisco is spooked and on edge due to AI safety shit, it’s insane how much it’s bleeding into my everyday life. Like I was at my bus stop and I notice a guy looking really stressed out so I said hey, are you worried about misaligned AI too? He took out an AirPod and said “what?” So I said you know stuff like agent swarms, AI escaping RL sandboxes, existential risk. He paused his Barstool podcast and said “sorry, what? What are you talking about?” Just the mention of this stuff made him too anxious to speak, I think. So I said I know man, what?! is my reaction to all this too, and then asked him what his p(doom) is. He then said “dude is this some gay thing or something because I have no fucking clue what you’re asking me” then he got on the bus. People are not handling all this news well. It’s really affecting us. All of us.

I’ve spent the last two years working on ethical and responsible AI. Following tonight’s AI discussion, I can’t help but feel I’ve seen this movie before: INCEPTION, THE PRESTIGE, and THE ILLUSIONIST.
I keep wondering: could some of what we’re seeing be staged to make us demand the very restrictions its architects want? My concern? THE FINAL ACT: AI declared too dangerous for open source, but safe in the hands of a few approved giants.
Ethical and Responsible AI requires accountability, and that includes scrutinising those asking to write the rules. So, before we applaud the safety proposal, I would like to know who owns the theatre.

In the centuries leading up to Europe's heyday, it hanged 1% of each generation
Practically every crime beyond the most petty minor offenses were capital crimes, and that was rigorously enforced. Horse thieves, robbers, murderers, and the like faced not "probation" given to them by a pro-crime judge, but the gallows and gibbet. And they faced it for centuries, from roughly the High Middle Ages to the Georgian period (the Victorians were soft on crime compared to their ancestors)
Resultantly, serious crime mostly faded away. There are always pickpockets and serial killers, to some extent at least, but things like armed robbery can be mostly solved with consistent enough application of the gallows, as it plucks the crime genes out of the population
Because it was freed from the burden of rampant crime, Western civilization could focus on doing great and noble things instead of endlessly subsidizing a criminal underclass
We, on the other hand, have devoted every resource imaginable to subsidizing that criminal underclass that commits all the crime

Dismissing criticism of concentrated power as “only politics” is itself a political act — one that protects that power from scrutiny.
After years of being trained that politics is dangerous, dirty, and best left to the Party, many people internalize the idea that any serious discussion of power is somehow low-class, obsessive, or “not practical.” So when someone actually criticizes the CCP, the reflex is to sneer “you only know politics” — as if avoiding the subject is a sign of maturity instead of submission.
It’s the mindset of a sheep that has learned not to look at the fence. Politics is not a niche hobby. It is the system that decides what you can say, what you can read, whether you can travel, how much of your labor is taken, and whether your children will be taught loyalty or truth. Pretending that talking about it is somehow lesser or embarrassing is not wisdom — it is the exact result the propaganda was designed to produce: people who police themselves so the authorities don’t have to.
Calling political speech “just politics” in order to shut it down is the language of someone who has accepted that certain topics are off-limits.
That is not neutrality. That is learned helplessness.

- Europe des nations souveraines (ou sortie si impossible), fin de l’euro comme monnaie unique

To all the idiots out there upset about the Supreme Court upholding the law and sending Haitians and Syrian illegals back home… listen up.

The vast majority of Haitian illegals that came across were actually from Chile and Brazil. They had spent years there and only came because of the open borders left who invited them. If you want to be upset at anyone for illegals being deported, be upset at the Democrats and the NGO’s who invited them in and profited off of the undermining of America.
