Our CEO, @DanielMainda, today joined the groundbreaking ceremony for the USD 16 billion Dangote East African Refinery in Lamu, presided over by H.E. President @WilliamsRuto alongside fellow African leaders and Mr. Aliko Dangote.
Beyond its scale, this landmark investment demonstrates what is possible when African ambition, private capital and regional cooperation converge to deliver transformative infrastructure, strengthen energy security and accelerate industrialisation.
Later in Nairobi, he joined H.E. Ms. @HeikkaRR, Ambassador of Finland to Kenya, and Team Finland Kenya at her residence for FinlandโKenya: Building the Next Chapter, an evening of dialogue and connections following the recent high-level visit to Finland.

Following H.E. President William Rutoโs State Visit to Finland in June, momentum continues to build around KenyaโFinland trade, investment, technology and innovation.
Last evening, I delivered remarks at a reception hosted by H.E. Riina-Riikka Heikka, Ambassador of Finland to Kenya, alongside @DanielMainda , CEO of @NIFCAfrica , and H.E. Ambassador @pthigo , Kenyaโs Special Envoy on Technology.
Kenya attracted US$3.2 billion in FDI in 2025, Finnish companies have invested approximately โฌ50 million in renewable energy, and bilateral trade stands at US$103.9 million.
The opportunity now is to deepen these ties by bringing more Finnish capital, technology and expertise into Kenya, while creating space for Finnish businesses to invest, innovate and grow.

The engagement advanced conversations around investment, innovation, technology, trade and sustainable partnerships. With USD 3.2 billion in FDI attracted by Kenya in 2025, approximately โฌ50 million in Finnish renewable energy investment, and USD 103.9 million in bilateral trade, the foundations are strong with significant room to grow.
As Kenya positions itself as a gateway to Africa, these engagements connect Finnish expertise and innovation with Kenyaโs investment opportunities, turning bilateral relations into business partnerships and dialogue into opportunity.

We celebrate this progress and the collective effort of Kenyaโs innovation ecosystem. Under the leadership of @WilliamsRuto, KeNIA continues to drive a deliberate and coordinated national effort to strengthen Kenyaโs innovation performance. We coordinate with @WIPO and work with local agencies responsible for data submission to strengthen reporting, address data gaps, and track progress across the GII indicators.
The establishment of the multi-agency Global Innovation Index Steering Committee has strengthened shared responsibility for this work, bringing institutions together to align data, policy and action. Kenyaโs hosting of WIPO Director General Daren Tang, including his engagement with H.E. the President and participation in our Kenya Startup Festival, further deepened collaboration on intellectual property and innovation commercialisation.
These intentional steps are building the partnerships and coordination needed to advance Kenyaโs innovation ambitions.
As we celebrate this improvement, we know there's still significant work ahead. Our ambition is to position Kenya among the worldโs top 50 innovation economies. Achieving this requires sustained investment in research, stronger links between academia and industry, greater support for innovators and reliable data that captures our national progress.
