I am breaking into a sweat just thinking about it!! I will never forget that haunting, double click noise coming from the socket as it was pushed backwards and forwards over the floor, with its small piece of old army blanket underneath it, to help it glide along. And the smell of that orange wax polish in those enormous tins. A smell that veterans will never forget! That smell would stink the block out for weeks. Over the years, every now and then, when I’m out and about, I’ll get a whiff of something similar to that dreaded orange wax and when I do, I can’t help myself, I just have to shout out ‘STAND BY YOUR BEDS!’ at the top of my voice. My missus hates it when I do that, it scares the shit out of her, plus she finds it bloody The bumper multi-gym on a stick, brilliant for busting locks off lockers all in one. Now banned by the Geneva Convention. But where did they all go when the hand bumper was demobbed? There must have been thousands of them, not forgetting the polish. Maybe they haven’t gone away… let the nightmares begin. If, like me, you acquired a taste for the orange stuff, (the smell of that stuff could be very evocative), it is called Johnson’s Paste Wax and comes in a Yellow tin.
