As another world cup #soccer kicks off, I'm reminded of work many of us did to design systems robust to large workload spikes. The '98 world cup soccer web trace was often used to drive experiments. Will be watching to see how well today's systems handle these spikes.

So sad to hear of the passing of Valerie Issarny. Valerie was an outstanding scientist & colleague, with contributions to software engineering, middleware & distributed systems. She served the community with distinction, receiving the IEEE TCSE distinguished service award. 1/n
