Official CNN Twitter: Gov’t confirms that a device was detonated in the city center. Casualties are forthcoming; at least 1500 estimated. Top Bluecheck Reply: The city center with the device is a total vibe. And then casualties is the snack to top it off

HELLO?!?! If you think like this please never ever call yourself a critic and especially not a journalist. If the studio does not want this to happen, then they should not do public screenings before the embargo lifts. Period. Full stop. End of story.
Technically allowed ≠ consequence-free, kids. (I ain't paying for long Twitter)

The scandal was not that priests were abusing kids so much as the hierarchy of the Church conspired to hide this and shield abusers from justice, facilitating more abuse. It’s a blot on the Church’s name, and rightly so, and limp attempts to excuse it further shame the Church
The Catholic Church found itself the target of the largest smear campaign in history. That’s part of the story. The other part is simply that many people wanted it to be true.

i think a lot of people need to start grappling with the reality that you will have to live your whole life. you are not the first generation to be convinced you live in the end times, and you will not be the last.
its kinda crazy how like, normalized and fully accepted the idea is that none of us are really gonna die of old age, especially among gen z ive noticed. like everyone i talk to has kinda just accepted that like yeah sure world’s probably gonna end before i become an elder

in a sane world anyone with any kind of remotely sensitive data would stop using OpenAI/GPT on the spot
🦔An NYU mathematician says OpenAI used his own progress against him to beat him to one of the biggest unsolved problems in mathematics. Tristan Buckmaster had been working toward a Millennium Prize proof using OpenAI's Codex when information about his progress reached OpenAI. Days later, OpenAI published a full proof of the same problem using the same uncommon approach, after burning $22.5 million in compute to get there. When Buckmaster confronted them, exec Sébastien Bubeck allegedly said "Why would you ruin your career?" and "If you don't want me to be nice, then I don't have to be nice." My Take OpenAI spent $22.5 million to solve a problem with a $1 million prize. They didn't do this for the bounty. They needed a headline that says "our AI solved one of the hardest problems in mathematics" and they needed it before someone else got credit. They started days after they heard about Buckmaster's progress and took the same uncommon approach he'd pursued for months. That's hard to explain as coincidence. Buckmaster did his work inside Codex. OpenAI reserves the right to train on Codex data. They admit they can't rule out that his usage helped improve their models. So a customer used their product, potentially handed them the roadmap, and then OpenAI outran him with $22.5 million in compute he could never match. I don't know if any of this was intentional. But if you're a researcher and you just watched this happen, I don't think you'd keep your best ideas inside someone else's product. Hedgie🤗 techcrunch.com/2026/09/08/op…

“woke 1” was a fun punchline when people were using it to make fun of like “Captain Marvel is the movie we need right now” type thinkpieces, can we go back to that definition

One thing I find fascinating about contemporary fandom is that it’s not enough for them to like a movie: everyone else has to like it too and anyone who says they like anything different is lying. It’s a position of such deep, deep insecurity
“they’re good movies, but they can’t be your favorites” well… why are they there then

not only did Rome have bureaucracy, but modern bureaucracy was invented when rulers learned how to read again and started reading the books the Romans wrote about their bureaucracy and decided to start doing the same thing.
What blows my mind about the Roman Empire is that lack of technology is far easier to overcome than lack of freedom from bureaucrats Like unironically these guys built the most insane civic architecture and still hold the record We have to technology to build something a hundred times bigger than ever but instead we chose to employ bureaucrats and allow them to micromanage every detail of buildings down to toilet spacing and the number of fasteners per foot They were willing to spend a significant portion of their GDP on making their civilization epic, and we have cheap bullshit and decay Terrible trade Absolutely humiliating

The hustle, the bustle — and the bodegas that fuel it all. The late nights that turn into early mornings. The hook ups, break ups, make ups and shake-ups. The fact that it may not be easy, but at least you know you’re having the time of your life. And — yeah — the freakin’ pizza.
serious question: what is good about New York City? I've never been, though I've been to Paris (several times), London, Rome, Istanbul, Montreal, Boston, San Francisco (but no other US cities)
