TTFB is a notoriously difficult performance metric, because it has so many different definitions and nuances.
New features like Early Hints and Speculation Rules only make that worse.

For this year's #webperf calendar, I wrote "Top 8️⃣ things I want in the Devtools Network Panel".
I often struggle to debug networking features in browsers (like DNS HTTPS records, 0-RTT, and Happy Eyeballs 👀) and have some ideas on how to improve that!

Firefox actually has LCP support since late last year as well and is working on INP, so not all chromiums.

Good tip, but there are some caveats. `--disable-http2` won't give you HTTP/3 but HTTP/1.1 + HTTP/3 (due to the alt-svc flow). A better method to force HTTP/3 is with the flags in my screenshot, but you have to manually indicate all origins, which is a PITA :(

Doing some testing for my @_welovespeed talk in two weeks and oh boy... do browsers disagree on how to load resources 🙄 Safari and Firefox take completely opposite routes (delay vs eager request all) and Chrome is more conservative than I thought. This'll be "fun" 🫠

This cannot be repeated enough. Lighthouse is an excellent tool with a lot of good recommendations and audits to help you get started.
The calculated score however is useless as a metric in most situations (as is the network emulation when testing protocol performance features)
Are you still using Google Lighthouse to track web performance? You are doing it wrong!
50% of pages with perfect Lighthouse score (90+) don't pass Web Vitals 😱
There is a blind spot in the Lighthouse scoring system.
