Behold, my book baby has arrived, & she’s beautiful! I’m a little teary-eyed, but they are tears of joy.

I thought it might helpful for some of you to read what Morrison said about difficulty and her own aims as a writer. First, some context: her master's thesis at Cornell in the fifties was on the (not yet canonical) high modernists Virginia Woolf and William Faulkner. Thread/1

these people went from “please submit your diversity statement with your application” to “if your syllabus does not affirm white supremacist christian nationalism, you will be fired” in record time.
Not D’Angelo, too. I'm devastated by this news. 2025 has no chill.

I saw this masterpiece in person, & it did not disappoint! To create this mosaic, the artist Jack Whitten used a mix of materials, including a razor blade in the center. The artist said the razor blade represents “the double edge of black identity,” which “cuts both ways.”
I’m forever grateful to the Jack Whitten estate & @HauserWirth for allowing me to use Whitten’s work as the cover art for my book. The exhibit, “Jack Whitten: The Messenger,” is spectacular & worth checking out @MuseumModernArt before it closes in early August.

I see folks in the ChatGPT college discourse calling for a return to blue books, presentations, no screens, etc. But we should have hard convos re: how we ceded those things in the name of “accessibility.” We can do both, but the state of accommodations needs to be addressed.

Mahmoud should be home in NYC with his wife and newborn son.
Instead he’s in a prison cell a thousand miles away.
Not because he has been accused of any crime—but only because he expressed political views that the Trump administration disfavors.
Grateful I got to attend Roberta Flack’s memorial service @abyssinianbc. I couldn’t stay long but was fortunate enough to see Lauryn Hill, Lisa Fisher, & Stevie Wonder perform. It was a good day in Harlem. 🙌🏾
