Virunga National Park is pleased to announce that the field team and community trackers have observed a new birth in the Bageni family. Uweko has given birth to a female infant.โ  โ  This is Uwekoโ€™s first documented birth. At 11 years old, she joins the familyโ€™s adult females. โ  The Bageni family has recorded five births since January 2026. It now numbers 62 individuals and remains the largest mountain gorilla family monitored in the Park.
