I don’t think we realise just how much of a difference little comments can make when they’re said to young people.
Replying to @FryRsquared
When I was 8, my teacher said it was a good thing I was pretty because I'd never be good at maths. It was that moment that I started hating maths, and I never really regained an enjoyment of it until I got to stats courses in my doc program, but that's not quite the same thing.
Great session with our lovely Year 1 students today. Always a pleasure to introduce some wise words from @joboaler Looking forward to more seminars @MissDeakinTeach 😊🧮

@primarymathsLBU really enjoyed the seminar today looking at @joboaler's work on number sense. Excited to get into the classroom at the end of the month!

Nice acknowledgment in the NCETM article.
Manipulatives in maths lessons? They’re for young kids who find maths difficult, right? Nope! They’re for all pupils and of potential use at all times. Our latest article shares blogs, books and a video that make that point ncetm.org.uk/features/develo…
Exploring number sense with our first year students @EducationLBU
Good to read about how we can develop in the early years 👇🏼
Regardless of how high #preschoolers can rote count, a child’s sense of what those numbers actually mean develops gradually. We call this understanding NUMBER SENSE, and it requires relating numbers to real quantities.
