I had deceived myself believing I was truly a man shortly after deployment and getting married.
But deep down, I was still a scared kid pretending to be a man and trying to fool the world.
I lashed out and behaved like a boy. I caused immense damage to those I loved the most.
I hadn't learned truly that a real man is complex and balanced.

A man doesn't truly become one until he starts thinking of more than himself. When he does, he will pursue growth in each of these pillars.

In 2010, I got a copy of the book War by Sebastian Junger. I was entering my final year as a cadet in ROTC preparing to enter active duty soon after.
I remember reading about the unbelievable hardship the men in the book faced in the mountains of Afghanistan and wondering if I was truly ready to face such things myself. I was filled with fear, doubt, and amazement at the heroism and grit the Soldiers of the 173rd Airborne displayed in the harshest of environments.
I remember reading about Kyle Steiner being shot in the head and essentially walking it off. A matter of millimeters between him surviving it or being killed by it.
If you had told me that 15 years later I would be sitting across the table from Kyle capturing his story in my podcast, I would have laughed in your face.
But life is crazy like that. Today we recorded together for over 6 hours. I am humbled to be the first to interview him on a podcast. What a wild ride this has been.
His story is incredible. I can't wait for this episode to be ready for everyone to see!
