A quiet way to waste money: registering for every remaining SAT date "just in case." The SAT is $68 a sitting. Sittings without changed prep between them mostly reproduce the same score, within normal form-to-form variation. Two prepared attempts beat four hopeful ones.

How many times should you actually sit the SAT? Two or three, and which of those it is depends on what changes in between.

Beyond three you're mostly buying variance and burning $68 a time. Two prepared sittings will do more for you than four unprepared ones, at half the cost.

Superscore, plainly: colleges take your best Math and your best R&W across sittings and add them together. 800M in March + 720 R&W in August = 1520, even though you never scored 1520 on a single day. Not every college does it. Check yours. It changes which sitting matters.

September SAT scores release Friday 25 September. If this was your second sitting, the number that matters is the superscore, and whether the colleges on your list actually accept one. Plenty don't.

The Official SAT Question Bank picked up 196 new Math items in August 2026. It's free, it's College Board's own material, and most students have never opened it. If you're buying question banks before you've exhausted this one, you're paying for the wrong thing.

When to start SAT prep, worked backwards from your test date instead of forwards from today. Counting forwards is why so many plans collapse in the last fortnight.

So eight to twelve weeks is the honest floor for a serious attempt. What binds the timeline is mock count rather than study hours, which is why ten weeks with four mocks does more than twenty with none.

"How long should I prep for the SAT?" is the wrong question. The right one: how many full-length mocks fit before your date? Under three and you're guessing at pacing. That's the floor, and it's what sets your timeline rather than a number of weeks.
Sitting the SAT tomorrow? The last-week checklist, including the Bluebook steps most people leave until test-day morning, which is the worst possible time to discover an update is pending. prepgenix.com/blog/sat-last-…
