🗣️ Meet the keynote speaker of this year’s Czech Security Forum: Brett Ashley Leeds.
Brett Ashley Leeds, Radoslav Tsanoff Professor of Political Science at Rice University, is one of the leading scholars working on military alliances, foreign policy and the relationship between domestic politics and international security.
She will speak about the role of the United States in contemporary military alliances and how domestic political developments and foreign policy change can shape alliance relations and international security. Drawing on her extensive research on alliance politics, the keynote will also explore the broader implications of these developments for today’s security environment.
Join us on 22 October at Atrium Žižkov and also hear from other leading international experts discussing the future of NATO, European security, foreign interference and political polarisation.

🔵 How do countries involved in civil war perceive arms control? Our scholar Tobias Risse shows that systematically, acute intrastate conflicts shift UNGA rhetoric from human security toward national security. Just published in @Res_Pol: journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.….
📰 With the growing popularity of AfD, should we expect a reset of Germany's pragmatic politics towards Russia? Our scholar Jakub Eberle and Ian Klinke just published a new long-read in @WarOnTheRocks, arguing why the comeback of Ostpolitik is unlikely. warontherocks.com/why-are-pe…

The Czech Security Forum, one of the leading security conferences in the region, is returning to Prague. This year, we will meet on 22 October 2026 in the charming setting of the former baroque church at Atrium Žižkov, where some of the world's leading experts from institutions such as NATO, PRIF, Rice University, the University of Oxford and the University of Copenhagen will bring their newest insights in security, international relations and geopolitics.
This year’s edition, titled “Polarization, Interference, and Fragmentation of the Western Alliance”, will explore how growing political divisions and foreign interference are reshaping Western alliances, NATO and the future of European security. At a moment when the West is being tested not only by external threats, but also by divisions within its own societies and alliances, this debate could hardly be more timely.
Be part of the discussion and secure your place now, registration is open: iir.cz/czech-security-forum-…

🎙️🇩🇪 Podpora AfD dál roste. Proč se jí vyplácí sázka na nostalgii po východním Německu? Co pro zemi znamená sílící vliv krajní pravice? A přistoupí úřady k zákazu AfD? Nejen o tom mluvila naše výzkumnice @ZuzanaLizcova v podcastu Krize @Voxpot @Jolana_H voxpot.cz/clanky/nasla-afd-r…
🔵 New experimental data from @Lauren_Sukin & Samuel Seitz! Nuclear threats from democracies are seen as less credible when the public opposes nuclear use. These domestic-opinion effects outweigh traditional credibility indicators (e.g. military capability, treaty commitments).

📚 New book chapter from Jakub Eberle & @VladimirHandl: How have Germany's relations with Russia and Ukraine evolved since the 2025 elections? They trace the shift under Scholz, the pro-Ukraine consensus vs. AfD-led pushback, and the new dynamics amid Trump uncertainty.

🔴 Rozhovor našeho výzkumníka @karlsvoboda1 pro @CRoDvojka: „Putin vždy budoval společnost tak, aby nebyla politická. Aby lidé akceptovali to, co jim režim řekne. Teď si ale všímají, že s Putinem stagnují, nikam se neposouvají a že to asi lepší nebude.“irozhlas.cz/zpravy-svet/rusi…
❗️ New research alert! Our Ph.D. candidate @zakirzazad just published a study using 2 conjoint survey experiments (N=1,002 & 501), finding that AI leadership & military tech boost perceived status, but going the domestic-production route pays off far more than buying from abroad.
