ADHD means I just missed a second haircut appointment so I guess I’m growing my hair out now.

So I made a mastodon for bailing purposes and generally like to think I am anywhere (as a usual nonposter) for the quality content side of things but this very good point made me realize the reason I keep coming back here is to keep up on the dunks, the drama, and the shitposts.

We can all silo ourselves and do our own thing which is good in a way. I’m just scared it’ll mean losing the “heart” of the internet. Cause the shitposts and chaos and edges were how we figured out stuff like actually furries rule and libertarianism is maybe not a good ideology.

The discourse is stupid and meaningless and you’d have to be terminally online to care about any of it but it also pushed a lot of us to pay attention to the signal inside the noise. When this site dies I’m not sure where that type of learning will come from.

I scrolled past this picture in a meme I didn’t understand thinking nothing of it fifteen minutes ago and just now figured out it’s Johnny Depp and suddenly got it and immediately realized what being finally forced to log off this site will cost me
Johnny Depp looks like he’d be friends with Janice Soprano

I’m just a dude lying in bed unable to sleep worrying about the world and I understand the volatility of tweets but I’m kind of scared we’ve reached the point where folks I respect are calling people asking for peace in a possibly incorrect way traitors.

I’ve no idea what should be done in Ukraine I just really hope it doesn’t involve nukes and minimizes lives lost on whatever side. People are worth saving regardless of their birthplace. I’m scared that I’m scared to say that and that the mainstream opinion seems to differ.

An example of why you shouldn’t believe stuff on Twitter without verifying and how incorrect info spreads on here. My assumption is this guy got a source’s data reversed since the real number is only 27% of Americans have never been to another country. pewresearch.org/fact-tank/20…
The average person in the United Kingdom has visited 10 countries. On average, Germans have been to eight. The average French person has traveled to five. Only 29% of Americans have even been abroad.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
1st: Europe (continent) & US (country) are about same size. Thus average countries a European has visited can be compared to average US states visited. Average American, 17 states. 2nd: 71% of Americans have traveled internationally (the claim is 29% "abroad" ). today.yougov.com/topics/travel/… pewtrusts.org/en/trust/archi… bigthink.com/strange-maps/w…
Feels like the best way to solve the false positives would be to only activate the functionality if the phone is attached to a CarPlay device.
Since the iPhone 14 went on sale, the 911 dispatch center near Kings Island amusement park has received at least six phones calls saying: “The owner of this iPhone was in a severe car crash...” Except, the owner was just on a roller coaster. 🆕 by me: on.wsj.com/3CkEJJz

Just got served something on youtube that is making me think so many thoughts but, before I get into it, let’s all agree to not immediately go on attack mode.

Instead of “going public,” you could say we’re “going purpose.” Instead of extracting value from nature and transforming it into wealth for investors, we’ll use the wealth Patagonia creates to protect the source of all wealth. Read Yvon's letter at pat.ag/Ownership
