My social life has moved to front-end.social/web/@ppk
I may return here from time to time; I may not. I'm not sure yet.
The cost of AI
The tech giants are creating a system with the appeal of a 19th-century factory without delivering the sole benefit: cheaper stuff. Ask what the true cost of the tokens would be. Nobody knows, but raising awareness is a good idea.

Books aren't dead
About twenty boxes of books were thrown onto the street from my apartment building. That made me sad, but Iโm not going read 98% of them. But they were taken anyway, and quickly. Books arenโt dead. Theyโre just sleeping.

Style queries for nested breakpoints
And combining style queries with CSS nesting. Also, I went down a rabbit hole. Do you know what a container is? And that size containers are the exception rather than the rule in container land?

Second year in a row, a @csswizardry #perfnow talk leaves me with literal one-line changes to investigate for perf improvements. Cache headers are an intimidating topic, but I feel armed with the info to start digging. Thanks Harry!

โ77% of developers have assumed more responsibility for testing in the last yearโ
Thatโs a good thing IMHO!
Separate dev and testing teams isnโt good and having โresponsibilityโ for your code should be a given.

@RyanTownsend tells us about the how crazy the web development is nowadays in terms of platform choices, companyโs struggle to retain devs by pushing platforms that are not UX centric, and their consequences on ending up with huge javascript files in production. #PerfNow
