For anyone planning a trip to China: 1) First get a good VPN (I use Astril). The great firewall is real and probably the most annoying thing to deal with day to day. 2) Download WeChat and add your CC, everything runs on it, from payments to metro systems to friendships (everyone chats on it). 3) I'd also suggest downloading Didi (taxis), Baidu (maps/translation), Meituan (food) and Diangping (restaurants). Covers daily life. 4) Chinese are actually really friendly/easily approachable, even if they don't speak English (which is common outside big cities). 5) Don't be peturbed by the apparent brashness or sometimes rude behaviour, remember it's a country of a billion plus people of all shapes and sizes. Much like America in that regard lol. (lived there for ~5 years) xitter.cf/georgegalloway/status/…
It’s hard to describe just how far out in front of us is China 2026. Luckily record numbers are checking out for themselves. Increasingly visa-free travel makes it easier than it’s ever been. I’ve just been on a “High-speed train” which description fails to do justice. It travels like the wind. If you closed your eyes you wouldn’t know you were moving. China has 50,000 miles of it. It links cities so far better than ours it brings me to tears. Clean. Crime free. The cops don’t carry guns and their cars don’t have sirens, only flashing lights. Prices are so cheap I’m scared to tell you. A slap up lunch £2.50. Shirts £12. Deluxe taxis (BMW electric) £4. And this in a Tier 1 City (Beijing Shanghai Guangzhou Shenzen). It’s cheaper elsewhere! The shops are tumbling with goods from the west (at Chinese prices - western goods are of course mainly made in China) from the east often Russia and from a home manufacturing base easily the biggest in the whole world. Nobody litters or jaywalks, nobody lays in shop doorways, nobody begs. Vertiginous towers of bewildering variety arise everywhere. At night these cities don’t even look real. I have a young wife. When she was born Shenzen was a one-horse town nobody outside had ever heard of. Today it is a Wonder of the World. One of dozens. If you deny it, you’re a fool. George Galloway

Pigs are smarter than dogs. They solve puzzles, play video games with joysticks, and can outsmart 3-year-old children on some tests. Pigs are highly sentient, showing empathy by mirroring others' stress or joy, forming deep bonds of affection and love, and displaying loyalty through long-term memory and trust. Yet the pork lobby is sneaking the 'Save Our Bacon Act' into the farm bill to lock millions in cruel gestation crates for life.
The Save Our Bacon Act looks sterile. The language hides the true intent - to protect horrific factory farming practices by Chinese-owned pork producers. This is demonic stuff. Sponsored by Representative Ashley Hinson.

Horseshoe crabs are shockingly adorable, I discovered. They are also shockingly under threat from the pharma industry UNNECESSARILY bleeding them in vast quantity. There is a synthetic substitute that works even better, but a few players are preventing conversion.
An important migration is underway. Will the horseshoe crab be there to support it? Taking It to the Moon and Back — With a Pitstop for Eggs by Defenders of Wildlife link.medium.com/GEuGYdKbQ5
