Russian food historian Pavel Syutkin has been sentenced to six years in a penal colony for spreading “fake news” about the Russian Armed Forces, Ostorozhno Novosti reports. The case concerned a 2022 post on Syutkin’s personal Telegram channel about Ukraine's Bucha. He was convicted of disseminating “knowingly false information about the Russian Armed Forces.” Prosecutors had sought an eight-year sentence and Syutkin was also banned from publishing material online for four years after his release. The writer, who denied the charges, has been in custody since October 2025.
