hearing that you need at least one failed geeseuationship in your past to be taken seriously in this new music media… what’s that handsome drummer up to these days?

i don’t really like movies or jane schoenbrun’s vibes but I do enjoy seeing a large population of teenaged internet dwellers leave their native habitat of twitter discourse about problematic medias try to form an opinion on Alex G’s 2012 album Trick. thank you jane

imagining this guy saying this to coltrane in the 40s when he was learning bird solos note for note
Replying to @p_feif80
As a musician I’m baffled that others, obviously skillful, imitate recordings note for note. That’s bad practice imo that comes at the expense of your own voice.

“more or less” is doing some HEAVY lifting here. Go listen to the alternate takes from this album. He is reusing ALL of his licks, but rearranging the pieces of the solos to fit the pacing of each performance. Sometimes he hardly even rearranges them
I'll tell y'all why 'Trane's version is infinitely more impressive: he more or less made it up on the spot.

it’s impressive because he WROTE it, iteratively over many sessions of improvisation! it’s impressive because his phrasing singlehandedly changed the future of his instrument! and it’s impressive because his songs are good
