Today as community members, government representatives led by MEC @NkomoNomantu - Department of Social Development we gathered outside Regional Court 2 in Kempton Park to remember the eight women who lost their lives and to stand in solidarity with all victims of crime.
One of the accused chose not to oppose bail; the matter was postponed and heard via Zoom. I spoke with to Prosecutor Pieter Erasmus about the practical and legal difficulties of processing undocumented people — an issue that too often impedes investigations, prosecutions and victims’ access to justice.
Our presence today underscores that community and government must remain united in demanding accountability and reform.
