Beloved friends and colleagues,
I've left investigative reporting to pursue a masters in creative writing (poetry) at @UChicago ...
High-stakes public service journalism took me around the globe, and deep into the city where I was born and raised.
I am grateful beyond words for the friendships we forged and all the good we got to do together.
Now, in my last open chapter, it's time to pivot -- to be a poet again.
Peace and strength to you, truth-seekers!
Your hear the cry for help that comes from just beyond earshot; hold real-world villains to account; expose the grift powerful institutions will never address because they’re tangled up in it; you build community.
I will be following your great and needed work.
I hope you will be in my life forever!

Thank you @ILTimes for making this week’s cover story our investigation into Illinois’ Special Prosecution Unit. Our reporting stood on the shoulders of early, hard-hitting stories by this 51-year-old alternative newsweekly.

I am so grateful to the nonprofit news service @CapitolNewsIL for republishing our investigation into Illinois’ Special Prosecution Unit. Operated by the @ILPFoundation, CNI provides nonpartisan coverage of state government to hundreds of news outlets throughout the state.

Our investigation into Illinois’ Special Prosecution Unit launched today, at injusticewatch.org/ -
This elite crew of state government attorneys is called in when local state’s attorneys have political or personal ties to a defendant, including cases of serious government corruption.
We found the unit has been responsible for miscarriages of justice including withholding evidence and favorable treatment of political insiders, as well as conflicts of interest and ethical breaches.
Illinois is an outlier among states in having a unit of special prosecutors who try local government corruption cases without oversight from any elected official, and other states have created safeguards against the insular leadership and a lack of accountability that plague the unit ...
Kudos to @ChicagoMaroon for breaking news its community needed, and for providing the most meticulous reporting:
