You are looking at a photo of Einstein’s actual notebook.
The Zurich Notebook (1912) is Albert Einstein’s actual handwritten journal, preserved and studied today, capturing the pivotal early phase of his development of General Relativity.
While back in Zurich and collaborating with mathematician Marcel Grossmann, Einstein filled this 96-page notebook with dense calculations and ideas as he struggled to reconcile gravity with his earlier special relativity.
It shows the messy, iterative process behind one of the greatest scientific breakthroughs: Einstein began to abandon the traditional view of gravity as a force and instead explored the revolutionary concept that gravity is the curvature of space and time itself, using the then-novel mathematics of Riemannian geometry.
Although he had not yet fully mastered the required tools and the final equations would only be completed in 1915, the notebook reveals the raw, trial-and-error thinking—full of false starts and bold questions—that eventually led to the theory explaining black holes, gravitational waves, the expansion of the universe, and much of modern cosmology.
This unpolished record humanizes genius, reminding us that even the most profound scientific insights emerge from persistent effort, mistakes, and ordinary tools like a pencil and paper.

I’d much rather see a student fully focused on deliberate math practice 4x per week for 30 minutes at a time than sitting in a 50 minute math class five days per week where 10 minutes of that is getting the class focused at the beginning, then 35 minutes of instruction, which may or may not meet the child’s needs, 5 minutes of wrapping up, and then 30 minutes of half assed homework at night.
30 minutes of fully focused deliberate practice 4 days per week can have you making serious progress towards most learning or fitness goals.
But it has to be fully focused -- a "full-assed" effort -- and you have to be continually upping the level of challenge as your capabilities increase.
You have to work intensely enough that you come out of each session seriously winded. Meaning that either your brain feels like mush or your body feels like jell-o.

My endless refrain: 75% of high school students are unhappy at school, 66% are not engaged in learning, 43% don’t feel connected to anyone at school, 30% increase in suicide during the school year, 300% increase in teen suicide since the rise of compulsory high school.
And somehow the question of flourishing is irrelevant to schooling?

The president and his administration are supercharging American decline, and adding both shame and dishonor to that decline.
.@SECWAR: "Under the previous administration—whether it was October 7th, the war in Ukraine, or the withdrawal in Afghanistan—the world looked at America and WONDERED whether or not we were capable of executing the way we did in the past...
PRESIDENT TRUMP SAID WE WILL NOT ACCEPT AMERICAN DECLINE."
