I am so thankful to have my story appear in @PorterHouseLit this week. “World Without End” is about family, ghosts, sickness, and hope—and I *hope* you give it a read! Thank you to @writeitdowns for the incredible edits and to the rest of the PHR staff for your amazing work. 🫀

Queen of writing a story line I love and working it into a larger narrative, second guessing myself, deleting that original story line, writing a new one to replace it, falling in love with the new story line, deleting it, writing again, deleting that, writing yet again, deletin—
If you are able, consider contributing or sharing this link to help @SamuelSamba10 attend the University of Virginia for his MFA. This is a dream of his and would help him dedicate time to studying and writing more beautiful work. gofundme.com/f/support-samue…
I am stunned beyond words to finally share that I got admitted into the University of Virginia(UVA), UNLV & Chapman University to pursue an MFA in Creative Writing. So grateful to @NotNowNicole who agreed to run a GoFundMe campaign for this cause.

I have been working nonstop for the past 6 months covering what’s happening in Gaza, but what I saw today while visiting Al-Shifa hospital was unlike anything I’ve ever witnessed before :
Israeli occupation forces executed 300 Palestinians in and around the hospital, and this morning, I witnessed hundreds of bodies outside the hospital , their wasn’t one full body all the bodies were either pieces or heavily mutilated .
The bodies were in horrific conditions; many had their hands and legs tied behind their backs and were flattened by a bulldozer.
Many of the bodies were burned and left to be crushed to pieces.
Several bodies were decomposed and partly eaten by stray dogs.
Most of the bodies were unrecognizable; families could only identify them by their clothes.
Al-Shifa hospital was considered the largest medical complex in the Gaza Strip, catering to many complex cases. It has been completely destroyed; they burned it down and destroyed all medical equipment. Israeli occupation forces has one goal and it’s to destroy every inch of Gaza

For years Israel has tried to silence Aljazeera journalists - through bombing their offices (2021), beating their journalists (Givara Budeiri, 2021), murdering them (Shireen Abu Akleh, 2022 and Samer Abu Daqqa, 2023) as well as their families (Al-Dahdouh, 2023). Now this.
BREAKING: Israeli parliament passes law paving the way for Al Jazeera ban.

Of course Israel deliberately killed @WCKitchen workers and of course the kitchen will halt its operations in Gaza. That’s exactly what Israel wants….to further starve Palestinians.

this is particularly infuriating to me as a library student bc what do you mean we can be charged with a FELONY for something we might have in our collection? our job is literally antithetical to censorship, information suppression, & book bans, this is so disgusting

The Director of the UN's New York office just resigned after thirty years at the organisation over the UN's handling of the ongoing genocide of Palestinians.
The entirety of his resignation letter is a necessary read but this first page blew me away.

Can't tell you how insane I feel knowing the "lesser of two evils" is still pro genocide. Vile administration, vile country capable of inflicting a gargantuan ripple of violence across the globe.
Having one of those days where my grief supersedes any hope/progress/growth I have worked to build over the years. It's hard to speak, I'm bone tired, and I start to feel like I can lie in bed forever, become a part of my mattress. BUT THEN a loved one calls. I get up and answer.

How can anyone be anything but a big ball of grief anymore, a dissociating ghostly form of themselves? How do we continue to care for ourselves and others? How do we think and breathe and exist, move forward?
This is adjacent to the point, but the way a lot of Latinx work is read in literary spheres--lit mags, workshops, etc.--has put a bad taste in my mouth. Something I notice a lot of in these spaces is a sense of elitism and comparison to authors/styles in the literary "Canon."
Replying to @JVA_writes
I would like to draw special attention to the fact that Latinx people are 19% of the US population. If we're being generous and looking at the entire Anglosphere, that number is still about 14%. In terms of book deals, though? 5%. That's completely fucking unacceptable.

When I was in high school my mom enrolled in community college. She never had a chance to go to school beyond a few yrs at elementary in Mexico. Everything was new to her. She sat in the front. She would ask so many questions. The young American students would make fun of her. She never got the degree but she went down swinging. When people ask me where I get my passion? I would never have gotten an NEA without my mother's example of bravery. My sister never would've been a Truman Scholar or Harvard grad. Blessed to have such a bold, intelligent mother.
