Canada is doomed. Six of the largest banks have announced they’re building digital tokens so your money can move between accounts instantly, calling them "programmable payments." Basically, the banks, oh, and that little thing called THE GOVERNMENT, can attach rules directly to anyone's money. They get to decide the exact conditions for when, where, and if your money is valid. You pay a contractor? That money only becomes valid in his account after an inspector approves the job.
